Ok guys here is the question... I know that a northwood has a death voltage of 1.8vcore and 478presscots are in the range of 1.65 or 1.6vcore.. But here is the dilema... I just recently built a nice water setup for a buddy of myne for his lga socket presscott chip... I know the lga chips run at lower voltages 1.3v or less so I was pondering whats the maximum safe voltage for his setup? If anyone has opinions on this please let me know And PS: please dont tell me to use the search as thats not helping and thus feel free not to post.
...Why not just play with it until it doesn't POST, or hold good temps... Even if chips are made side by side, there's still play. It's for you to find what the max your particular chip can do.
Problem being that the max vcore and max vcore b4 the chip life gets reduced to weeks is two diferent things... A northwood chip dies in a matter of weeks if using 1.8vcore and above.. Thats what im asking about here. Whats the max vcore b4 the chip life gets to be completly crap and it burns out.
If you're not comfortable bumping the voltage, I'd suggest you overclock on stock voltage only. Dont take someone's word that prescotts may take x voltage fine. All chips are different. See what kind of overclock you can manage at stock before you jump to this-could-kill-it tweaking. If you still want to know, check Intel's data sheets
