Hello, I am hoping someone can offer a solution to a problem I'm having. My company operates a site which isn't part of our company network - users have to log in using roving lan tokens over and ISDN connection (old-school I know!). My problem arises because we have two desktops and one printer/fax. Both the desktops need a printer connection permanently, so we're using the USB and parallel cables. Thanks to this, there is no way a laptop user can print without physically yanking out the UBS cable and connecting it to their laptop (and this is quite a complicated job for some of my users!). Does anyone have any suggestions? Is there some sort of USB splitter cable I can use? Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks,
You can get USB splitters, or you can get a parallel switch. Both do need switching though. If the laptop can connect to the same network, just share the printer on one machine and print that way.
the best way would be to set it up as a network printer, either by doing as Doug said and sharing it from one computer (although this computer would have to be on for others to access the printer) or by getting a print server for about £50 edit: or you could buy a printer that has a network connection built in
Thanks for your advise guys. I'll forward it on to my collegues and see what they think. I obviously won't take credit for your ideas!!
