Just bought a laptop, booted fine and went to install a program.

When I got into my computer there was no dvd drive shown, nor in device manager. Went into the bios and there is no drive showing.

Could this be a problem that the drive isnt connected or just a software fault.

Obviously they have to install windows using the cd drive so it must have worked then.

    Many thanks

My mate had the exact same problem, turns out it was a design flaw, and you had to pust the drive further into the bay to make the connection, and then reboot so it would recognise it.

Give it a shot, it might be what's happening to yours.

I'm assuming it's still under warranty?

    Edit:

IIRC a lot of companies just pre-load straight to the HDD before installing it, so it could have been missed.
