i have a problem with my dvd-ram. it so slow when burning and copying (dvd to hdd) process is been done. i need to wait 30 min to finish the burning process. i dont know what is the problem with my desktop. my friend suggest me to change my power supply unit because he say my system may not stable. my current power supply is 300w and i use 2 hdd and 8600gt graphic card. it is a power supply fault or any other hardware fault? hope u guy can suggest me anything to solve my problems.
its a new dvd-ram and the speed is 20x. but i have try my dvd-ram to another desktop and it can burn faster. so what should i do?
Is there any chance you could borrow a PSU from someone (or another computer of yours) to test in your rig? By that way you could determine if it's the PSU's fault.
Sounds more likely it is set to PIO mode rather than DMA, a very common problem. Check it out in Device Manager>IDE ATA/Atapi Controllers. Check all channels that have devices attached are set to DMA mode.
i have set all channel to dma mode. still i need to wait 30 min to finish burn a dvd. i still confuse... i have try my dvd -ram at my friends pc and it work well and no need to wait 30 min. he use new mobo and use a same psu just like mine. so what should i change?, mobo or psu or others hardware. i need to know what should i change cause i dont want to change a hardware that still in a good condition.
What cable are you using? If it is a 40 strand IDE cable you are limited to ATA33 speed, whereas most modern optical drives run at ATA66 but you must have an 80 strand IDE cable for that. That is the bit of hardware I would be suspecting/changing first. Can you borrow your friend's cable just to try? EDIT: Also, run something like Nero speedcheck, just so you can tell us what speed it is actually running at.
Indeed it is! Older drives typically only offered DVD-RAM writing speeds of just 2.4x... and even the newest 20x DVD±RW drives are only capable of 5x DVD-RAM writing It's very surprising/disappointing really, because DVD-RAM has been around for donkeys years... yet 5x is even slower than Blu-Ray disc write speeds (6x), and Blu-Ray is very new computer technology/format!
Yea, sorry. i should say the common name which is optical drive not dvd ram or dvd-rom. by using dvd-/+ r, the speed is 16x. i have check my cable and i found that i use 80 strand IDE cable. i dont know, maybe my cable make my dvd so slow.....
