Been trying to resolve a problem with my system but with no joy. System specs: Tagan 480 watt psu Intel core 2 quad CPU @2.4ghz Motherboard Asrock ConRoe865PE GFX FireGl X2 256t HDD Samsung spinpoint 40GB RAM 4 stick 512mb corsair pc3200 ddr 400 PC boot sup and gets as fare as the windows xp loading screen but then the monitos ges into stand by mode and stays like that. If I restart again It goes to the page and I say start windows normally and then windows boots fine. System then works for hours without any problems but if I cold boot or just restart theres a 50% chance that it will do teh stand by thing again. Things I have tried are listed below: New psu 600 watt - No difference RAM test- ran for 1 hour found no errors Re seated everything and checked cables Installed new windows xp Updated drivers roleld back drivers Ran HDD test says 100% performance System can run 3ds max 8 and do complicated renders for hours wihtout any probelms so I doubt its the cpu and if the RAM was faulty why would it only happen on boot. If its drivers why work the second or third time around? If the HDD was faulty why does it work fine for hours without hangs or crashes. Really stuck on this one. Please Help.
Some interesting info: Decided to reboot the pc 30 times is sections of 10 and see how many times it would successfully boot here sthe results. 1. No boot 2. No boot 3. Boot 4. Boot 5. Boot 6. Boot 7. No boot 8. Boot 9. No boot 10. Boot First 10 booted 60% of the time 1. No boot 2. Boot 3. No boot 4. Boot 5. Boot 6. No boot 7. Boot 8. No boot 9. Boot 10. Boot Second set booted 60% of the time 1. Boot 2. No boot 3. Boot 4. Boot 5. Boot 6. Boot 7. No boot 8. No boot 9. Boot 10. Boot 3rd set booted 70% of the time Always in the same place just after windows xp loading screen as logon screen loads. What is causing the failures? Pc runs for hours after a successful boot until shutdown. Its something to do with whatever it does as its loading that one section.
Have you flashed the BIOS with it's most recent version? Replace the motherboard battery to see if the current one cannot hold settings at startup.
Bios has been flashed to 1.70 from 1.60 error was still occuring with 1.60. Battery is working as it remembers boot settings and Im able to clear CMOS. I just turned off windows xp login screen and changed it to automatic and now it only messes 80-90% of the time. Im starting to think its something to do with the gfx settings or drivers when the screen leaves 16 color mode but Iv tried the old ones and the new ones with no success. Any other ideas? ***** Did some research and aparently this section between the logo and the desktop loading is when the gfx drivers are loaded. Im guessing then that sometimes not always the pc fails to load these drivers which results in the moniotrs going into stand by. Iv tried re installing the latest drivers but no joy. Also went into power managment and change it to always on incase the monitors where going into stand by because of that. ***** Found the problem it was the FireGl drivers. For some reason the pc cant boot into windows xp 100% of the time usin gthe drivers old or new. What should I do I need the drivers in order for the firegl to work with applications such as 3ds max but Il keep getting teh issue of having to restart the pc a certain amount of times. Any suggestions? Was thinking of just getting a new AGP card like a x1950 or something and hoping it has some 3d application power besides gaming. Hopefully then with it having different drivers solving the problem. What would you do?
Just a final reply to finish the thread. I hope this come sin handy for anyone else with the same issue as me. The problem was a compatability issue with the FireGl X2 256t and the newly added ConRoe865PE motherboard and quadro processor. I dont kno wthe finer details but after 4 days of tests and ruling thigns out heres what Iv found. Hard drive required a full format not just a new copy of windows xp so grab Ultimate Boot CD and use the HDD cleaning function to get ride of any old drivers. New clean install of XP (no more blue screens of death due to new hardware fighting over old drivers) The ATI FireGl x2 will work on this motherboard but you can only use the drivers that it already has that are pre installe donly on a fresh install of XP when it registers components if you try use CD drivers or updated drivers you will get the boot failures after windows xp and can only get into teh desktop 6 out of 10 times on average. When XP is finalizing installation when installing the card drivers it may or may not just cut out. If it successfully does it then you wont have any further problems goign by how my system is currently running. In a nut shell you can do it but overall the FireGL x2 doesnt really like either teh Asrock Mobo or the Q6600 quadro. Issue could easily be resolved with getting a gaming card or manage different FireGL agp card but in my line of work gaming cards just dont cut it. Hope this has helped someone. P.s If your having similar issues but its not teh card do the usual HDD scan for errors and memtest86 to see if its the hardware and try a clean install of your OS. Ultimate Boot CD is ideal for doing this and you dont have to mess about with floppy disks Thanks to those who replied.
