i have just got a computer from a friend well a laptop and a computer and they have windows xp pro on the computer and windows 2000 on the laptop they have the COA stickers on the bottom of these.

i have windows 2000 pro disc and windows xp pro disc on the coa stickers they have 2 product keys

The Windows XP pro has a windows 2000 product key on it as well as the xp pro

The Windows 2000 COA has a NT product key on it.

right i have tried to installed xp pro with my disc yet the cd key wont install. is this because its an upgrade version and if so will i need to get an upgrade version of windows 2000 and windows xp pro?

Or should i phone microsoft up and say the product keys dont work and they may advise me on what am doing wrong?

you lot are the pro's and should be able to help

Did you buy full retail copies of XP and 2K?

Have you used them on other PCs before?

The computer and laptop probably came pre-installed with an OEM version of XP and 2000, you would either need the original OEM disks/repair disks or buy a new retail copy of each and use the new CD keys.
