I purchased a dual monitor mount for an astonishingly low price of $40 on www.monoprice.com last week, it arrived, I set it up, am very happy and thought I would share my opinions on it with you guys. Here is the product image from the site. Here is a picture (albeit a bad picture) of the monitor stand in action. Overall I couldn't be happier with this addition to my desk. When shopping for dual monitor mounts there was this one and then other options for upwards of $175. Nothing was sacrificed in terms of quality though. Everything is constructed of solid steel, there is included cable management, and it is a nice touch that they lined the clamp attachment device with soft rubber padding. Pros: I now have so much extra space to lay out papers, bills, books and anything else I need on my workspace. When I need a dual-monitor workspace for work the two monitors easily align with each other, and when I want one monitor right-in-my-face for gaming the stand has enough reach to bring the monitor right over my keyboard. In addition to being strongly built it seems to be intelligently built as well and does not get in the way at all and is a joy to use. Another great feature is the adjustable tension which allows the swiveling action (60 degrees tilt, 180 degrees everything other direction) to be completely adjustable. Cons: Monitor height adjustments require an allen wrench and some time & you cannot keep one monitor at one height and another monitor at another height. Cable management could be twice as good with a couple extra clips. I thought I might be able to push the monitors to the sides and watch the HDTV in between them while working - the darned pole gets in the way of my field of view. This is probably one of the favorite 'mods' I have completed and makes my desk a much happier place for my new sandybridge system (no, SB is not in that atrocious case that's an old P4 until I get my PSU & Case).
that seems like a pretty good find. thats about the price one would expect to pay for a normal single monitor stand, let alone dual. id be worried about the ball joints behind the monitors...do they seem tight enough that the monitors wont sag over a short period of time? how was your experience with that website? it looks a little disorganized...
You're right, their site seems really disorganized. I think it's mostly because they only sell certain oddball products (mainly cables of various purposes; internal & external & non-computer-related). The website did a good job for my purposes though, I contacted their customer service department regarding their return policies prior to making the purchase and I was quickly in contact with live individuals and they pay all return shipping costs for a full refund/exchange when products are damaged/non-functional. This, by my standards, is good practice and the product was shipped on time and left their warehouse the same day I purchased it. As for the ball joints: they have several screws that you can tighten/loosen to adjust the tension. It takes some fiddling but with a few minutes you can adjust it to just what you like. *EDIT* I should add that since actually mounting and adjusting the tension on the monitors that they no longer seem to want to spin into portrait orientation. I'll investigate tomorrow. Also it's pretty nice that you can swivel either/both of the monitors to face the other side of the desk when needed. I just hope the MSI GTX 560 TI Twin Frozr II that is staring at me from across the room doesn't have any issues with the dual monitor setup.
