Have a look at Tychos update on Penny Arcade today (the section2 he mentions in specific)
    Penny Arcade Blog
    ..and this place he mentions...
    Hype Council

As I was reading it the first place I thought of that would be a good target for these "Guerilla Marketeers" is here, especially the specialist forums where people would often go for suggestions of equipment/software to buy. The most worrying thing is its going to be virtually impossible to spot them, short of meeting them in real life.

It certainly gets you a bit paranoid that there are companies out there hijacking supposedly un-biased knowledge bases...

Hardly a good job - very boring and likely to pay absolutely peanuts as most of the IPs originate in East Asia...

Out of sheer, morbid curiosity, could you post some screenshots of the trash can? Please?

Hopefully, if this becomes too much of an issue, IP lists, similar to Peerguardians anti-p2p orginisation lists, can be made up of the forum marketers IPs, and incorporated into most forum software packages. Although, seriously, these people don't just need to be blocked from forums..they need to be banned from the internet. The internet is one of the few sources of up to date good info these days, they shouldn't be allowed to screw up good forums with bad info.

Then theres always these people. Always look out for someone with an abnormally low post count or take hardware advice from bigz, whom I havent seen around too much lately. Good luck RTT.

Caught one today, he got an stern email and a ban for only 2 posts. Between these people and spammers I'd enjoying testing torture techniques too.

Just do what another forum owner does and send them an invoice for £1000 pounds per post. ;)

    Great fun that :D

What would be the best way to report the "free ipod" and other spam.

It's one of the new ways of advertising, like product placement in films, TV, computer games. People watch fewer commercials, so move the ad to the storyline. Make sure the label's showing.

On forums it usually stands out a mile, but on newsgroups somebody can highly recommend anything and get away with it.
Must be on holiday again, I don't know where he gets the money... :naughty:
