Any one have this issue? I get this with two out of every three programs I install now and I don't understand the issue. The more confusing thing is that the programs still work even if I ignore the message. I've googled but the replies and help are a little confusing and seem to be talking about problems specific to certain software rather than this happening as a general problem. I'm on Windows 7 pro 64bit (MSDNAA copy).
I have seen this on a number of Windows 7 machines (also 7 Pro). It is inconsistent and I have never really seen it correspond with a program not installing correctly. I like the uncertain nature of this error message. It is good for a laugh. *edit* I see Lysol has a solution for this. Give it a try, I will probably as well.
This is Microsoft software compatibility system, which takes what you answer and report to Microosft, which will make them look into it (if it does not work), and find a solution, which will be available in the software compatibility solution center, or have a Windows update which will fix the program or setup so that it works. Why so many of these messages when the program installs fine? Because developers/companies aren't updating their installer. Their installer is designed for XP, and Windows 7 detects that, as the setup accesses legacy API codes and path, which Windows 7 redirects to the new paths/code. A simple update on their installer will solve this problem that you are seeing, but it requires effort, and possible a bit of money.. so some of them aren't doing it. This is also shows you, which company uses Windows 7 as their main system, and those who don't (never notice the problem, or understand these reports). Until then, you can disable this service. This system GREATLY helped Microsoft boost software compatibility in Windows 7.
