As per the title, I'd like to try my hand at commentating on some Dota 2 games. Unfortunately, I'm basically a complete beginner when it comes to these things. Never recorded games before, never edited videos. All I'd really need to do is record the match, which can be done at any time since in-game replays are saved by default, then add sound from my mic either while recording the video of the replay or after it's recorded, then some simple editing to snip out bits, adjust voice volume in relation to the game, et cetera.

Ideally I'd like to this with open source or trial software to see how it pans out. Anyone have an recommendations on what works well?

There was a thread on here posted by nchhabs, had a whole lot of stuff in it. Just search dxtory and itll pop up.

I use dxtory as it doesnt bog down the system like fraps does, plus it has all the mic and sound options for recording audio. It also doesnt break the video up into 4gb parts like fraps. When recording your voice in dxtory it gives you seperate audio from the game audio so you can adjust your voice level if its to high or low without raising or lowering the game aswell.

For the software youll find it at www.dxtory.com

Awesome, I'll check out that thread and the software. Nifty that it does dual audio recording, didn't seem like Fraps was capable of it so that's a plus. Thanks and rep!

Bandicam works well, so does Afterburner. I don't think either separate out the game audio from the commentary though.
