Actually, I appreciate your honesty. Constructive critisism is encouraged and part of the learning experience. TBH I had doubts myself about the design and wanted a less "display case" look. (Albeit that is its primary function). But given the limited time we had, what can you do? ;)

Once the case was finished my feelings changed somewhat, and all I can say is the pictures really don't do it justice.:nono:

Yeah man, a few days really isn't long considering that it could usually take a few months to make an acrylic case to such a high standard.

Anyway, it's always nice to see another article like this; I think they're the true spirit of bit-tech.

I have to admit I wasn't too fond of the case from the first picture, but after reading the article and seeing all the other pics, I think it is amazing!
Going along with what I've seen other people say in here, where/when can I see this beast? Were you given a schedule of the tour? We've got a couple of Intel plants in town, so I would hope the case might come this way, but you never know.

Great job, and quality work guys! Congradulations on your "big break"

    Wow

Great article on this. It's certainly given myself some ideas. I'm fairly new to modding but i'm really getting quite interested in starting my own acrylic project.

It's proving to be quite a task though - who do use for supplying the plastic btw?

As a noob modder what tools would you describe as essential for starting a project like this??

    Thanks, Matt

Welcome to the boards, your honor. :D

The project followed mostly along the guidelines of some of my articles:
    http://www.bit-tech.net/article/67/
    http://www.bit-tech.net/article/72/

As far as materials source, I shipped material to the UK from the US for these guys because there aren't great sources. You can look in the modding forum here and there's a thread about UK sources, I just can't seem to find it right now.

Tools? A table saw would be very very helpful--otherwise you'll want to ask your supplier to cut your pieces to size. Also corner clamps. A router figured prominently in this project. The more tools the better!

    First thing first.. awesome case!!!

I was also looking for materials to build a case, i've had no problem finding clear acyrlic plexiglas at the local hardware stores but it proves to be much harder to find the smoked plexiglas. I'm in the U.S. so it wouldnt be a problem ordering from a company over here, so i was hoping you could get me the name of where you got yours or any other ideas.. thanks

    and welcome to the forums

Welcome to you mrobitz too! .. look in the thread I linked to above for some good suppliers a few good ones that we always recommend in the states are:

    http://www.usplastic.com/
    http://www.delviesplastics.com

between those two you should be able to get virtually anything you are looking for.

    Tech side of things!

Firstly, fantastic case. Simple as that.

Secondly if i wanted to make an plexi clear case etc are there any isssues with screening of high frequencies given off by the components. Thats what the steel is for in most cases so by building one out of plexi, could i get any interfearance on other electrical stuff like Tv's, is this even an issue? How far away do the frequencies have an effect etc? Anybody help?

    Cheers

    Welcome Yellow!

We have discussed this a good bit, it is a reoccuring concern. Check out this thread and there are some good responses. Basically, sheilding isn't so much a problem with acrylic/plexi but it has a nasty habit of generating static charges which can be addressed as well...
