Project: AkatSuki |||A Bit-Tech First!!! Pic from 09/10/05 update! New!! Project Log: http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=98668 I need some paint colour idea's....im thinking ouside will be black with candy white interior?? what do u guys think?? LMK!!
Maybe not black, but reallllllllly dark gray? I like the idea of the white insides though and I think dark gray will compliment it better, rather than black which is overused (damn, /looks at black case) Nice log too btw
i also need idea's on the front bezel badge thats on the front door...ive taken the brown antec bage off..but im clueless for ideas ...maybe i should repaint it then reapply it?? or maybe somethign different.
atanum....just to let you know mate that the Project Log Discussion is meant for logs in the new Project Logs fourm. People can still reply in your original thread...
Hi Chaps... Well ive been on these forums for a while an i think everyone here is great...but most of my respect are towards to the modders who bravely break and fiddle with expensive goods well ive been thinking to dip my hand into modding for a while now...and after a eventfull bankholiday monday i decided to get on with it. Well also another thing is looking at all these great logs(on vairous forums also) not many people have the case ive got and also done anything to mod them. Ive called my case "AkatSuki" as it means "Scarlet/Crimson Sunset" But i might not even use red/scarlet in this project(still deciding) Well let me intoduce her to you fellas.....i give you The Antec Lanboy!!! And Finally The reason im showing pics pulled from Antec's website is because on Bankholiday monday...i huge powersurge and a huge "BANG" happened in my case and so being scared i pulled all the contents out and layed them bare on the table....and thats how it is right now... What a mess well ive have a bigger update later-on tonite...as England are playing so im off to watch that.... Edit: Any coments or suggestions can be made at the new project log discussion page. New Project Log Discussion http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=98617
Well After a REALLY crappy match from England last night i decided to drown my sadness in beer thats why there wasnt an update last night...but im here now to make up for it. My idea for the case is to keep it as original as possable..with a few minor tweeks and a nice new paint job.I dont have any flashy equipment and also i cannot afford to play around with any hardware so most of it will be left as stock and also there will be no watercooling....that will be my next rig . So on to the update!! Here is the machine completly gutted and all the pannels off expect the right hand side pannel(it is riveted on) If you see in this picture..thre are earlier signs of me trying to mod my machine by cutting out the fan grills as they were hindering the cooling and making too much noise...but as you can see my handy-work is nothing short of crappy! So...the nice postie dropped off these nice things off to me this morning.. i wonder what it could be??? So in the first big paccage we have 2 types of spiral wrap with blow-hole trim from Kustom-pc and the fan you see in the second paccage is a 92mm Vantec Stealth fan from ebay...these will be used abit later-on. So the next port of call was to measure up the size of the two holes for the intake/outake fans needed..as 80mm fans were not cutting it..and the noise was annoying...so i decided for a 92mm intake and a 120mm outtake system which will give me a very good airflow with minimal noise With the help with Google i found Moddin.net i found that they had templates for vairous blow-holes avail to print out...so i got the 92 and 120mm ones and printed them out... And with the aid of masking tape and the fans i lined-up the templates where the fans should be placed when i finishing off the cutting.. and... Turning over to the back... Finally.. With both of the templates in plase this how the case looks... Im still waiting on my new Tagan Psu...so ill update as soon as i get the case appart.... Any suggestions would be welcome!!
Update!!! 12/9/2005 Well after a verylong weekend working i can finally update the log. But as with being busy with work this week i did get some work done. The best part of the week was the arrival of my new Tagan Psu. OOHH sooooo many connectors The actual Psu itself The complete package These are caps to put onto the unused cables as they might get dusty or damaged to the air Some nice velcro ties with some screws A real high quality Psu lead...its EMI sheilded and braded!!! All the Cables that come with the Psu Now a few shots of the Psu in its glory: As ive been running it for the past few days 24/7 i have not found a problem with it...even underload...but the best part is that its completly silent!!!! as one of my major aims for this project is to have a super quiet Air-cooled machine. Well on to the Modding!! Actually i wanna show you guys my dads Bosch drill that we've had many years but only used a few times DAMN!!! look at the rust..but it did work properly..fast and cool...well happy with it. Well the next job i had was removing the rivets from the case as it was the main way Antec put this care together to keep its weight down to a minium...so im all of these pics shows the after image as i cant drill and take pics of meself! So heres the after pic of all the rivets removed from the case(there were like 15 off them!!)Phew!! As you can see the top pannel is a "one piece" pannel with the left pannel also. Another shot of the pannel,i hate that blue sttamp that makers use for their products..i will remove it before the painting. So here she is with nothing on...and EXTREAMLY light. And the last one for today! well thats it for now..ill be back with an update soon. Ive ordered the sandpaper from fleebay and also im in the process of getting a holesaw for the blow-holes...but i still need help on what paint scheme i should be doing. Im thing of a Black outside with candy white inside finish?? LMK guys!
Update!!! 18/9/2005 OK so after a super long weekend...and 27hours of work/raving saturday night...i can finally sit down and update the log.....alot has happened...and i have been slowly cracking on with the work..but its getting there So lets see whats happening! So i finally remove the plexi cut window from the sidepannel...its held on by plastic rivet like caps...takes a few seconds to remove. ...well you know the blue manufactuers stamp that i hate...well this is how i removed it... i thought i would have to whip out the white spirit or sum hard chemical...but only a few drops of my mums nailpolish remover took care of it well after that i decided to give the inside of the "L" pannel a rubdown with the remover...to get rid of any dirt or dust...whell this is what came out. as you can see quite about of dirt was there...its surprising what the eye cant see. Next up i have a few pics showing the scratches i have on the top of the "L" pannel due to my miss-care and my fuji camera's docking station.... As you can see some of the marks are quite deep but the pics arnt the best as the lighting was wayyyyy off,but you can get the general idea. So after that small clean up...next came removing the case feet!!! so i got one removed and it had this weird brown adveasive used to stick thise high quality feet onto the case..i donno what it was but man it was a b*tch to remove with my stanley knife blade. Here iam removing the brown adheasive from the feet as thats what it was stuck too.... and here is a shot of the higy quality case feet!!! Next up was to see how bring the lighting was...so i di the Psu wire trick..and got me cathodes together to see how bright they are gonna be...but ive mis placed one of me 4" inc ones...as i plan to use 2x4" and one 12" UV cathosed in the maching. well this is only to see how bright they where..but im still missing one... the great thing is that i have two black inverters in grest shape...and so match the case when i get round to painting it. WOOOHHHOOOO i recieved my sandpaper from fleebay!!..10 pieces for £2.99 in del!! a bargain. Also i wanna got a shout out to Mr Willy Wonka for selling off a 120mm fan guard so from left to right we have 2pcs of course,3pcs of medium,3pcs of fine and finally 2pcs of extra fine.
So i was sitting at home one night getting the itch to start sanding...then i thought id give it a try...a few pics of dry sanding to see how hard it was gonna be. and some more then i thought to myself well it is wet/dry sand paper and also i needed a sanding block and so i got one and decided that "wet" sanding was gonna be easier and more controlled with the sanding block. and now a few pics of me "wet" sanding whilst my dad took the pics. Well i started on the left "L" pannel to see my sanding skillz! and this is what we ended up with.. its not the best but 30mins later...i was knackered. So another day of work came and so i stopped by maplins to pick up some new LED's for the Power and HDD activity.Check it out! Both are Ultra Bright....UV Blue and Sunset Orange! So again i had some more free time during the last two days and so as the weather has been getting worse in London i decided to crack on...i wanted to finish the "L" pannel as thats the one thats gonna take the mose time as the top and edges needed to be sanded down...so after about an hour this is how it turned out like. im gonna give it a good going over with the "fine" paper..and thats it...its ready to be primered... and straight after that i started on the window pannel...inside the house as it was freezing outside.. even tho the pic only shows only half sanded i did actually finish it but i didnt take a pic straightaway...but ill have one later on..... Phew...that was long....on to the hole cutting then painting!!
Small Update!!! 21/09/05 Lo chaps!! im here with a very small update to remind you guys what im actuall doing....so as its me last day before i go back to uni i thought i get started with the plastic bezel as im sure it was gonna take some time sanding it down so lets get crackin!!! i sort of tryd abit last night in me bedroom to see how hard it was to sand plastic. i tryed dry sanding and it was making a mess and taking ages sooooooo wet sanding time!!! and this is how far i got last night. And thats how far i got.....so asi was doing nuthing at home 2day...i thought to try and finish it off.... so here she is pretty much finished on the out side. the difference in how smooth the plastic is amazing....the nasty "bobble" effect...is removed,i must say that the smooth finish is rather tasty...i cant waith how smooth she is when shes painted. i still need to sand down this inside section tho its gonna be hidded most of the time i have no clue what antec was thinking with 4 LED's...2 of them have no use what so ever...but i will be sanding down the raised lettering asi prefer it smooth. as i have removed here on the front pannel. So now some full shots of how the case stands now.... Let me kno what u chaps think!!
just a small note.... i got the front bezel sanded down...but still need to do the inside...but i will have pics up later on....also did abit of work on certain parts of the machine that people didnt realise were there!!! also i think ive settled on a colour scheme...inside(cassis)(Sp?) candy white(ipod white) with the rest of the case in Pearl grey(look at mookboy's thread about his Golf Gti) with UV lighting, and more to decide later on. i MAY do a PSone screen mod aswell but i havent decided yet.
UPDATE!! 2nd October Lo chaps Its been awhile but im finally ready for another update Im first gonna start with the smaller items that is gonna be incorporated into the case. So the first port of call was the front bezel which i sanded down last update. But then i had a dilema, the Antec sticker was still placed in the bezel and i needed to remove it. I used a few tools but its was stuck pretty well then i realised if i hosed down the case with cold water with abit of help of my stanley knife she finnaly came off. So here she is with all parts sanded to a smooth finish. Even tho it dosent look like much shes more smooth and looks smarter but im worried how im gonna paint her The second thing was the back security/Screws holder box thingy ...i really donno what its called but that was the next thing to get the sanding treatment. ..this is how it looks standard. And now we have it sanded...ahh much better..and also i removed off the stupid numbers on the side but kept the "hardware" logo. The third item was a new Card reader that i bought from ebuyer...the best £1.99 spent!! Here she is stripped now this is where i need the input guys...the standard activity LED on the Card reader was booring green so i decided to change it up abit...ive got the same two colours LED thats gonna be used as Pwr/HDD LED's but i cant decide on which colour i should use.. Blue?? Or Orange?? Here si is stripped and sanded so that the paint clings to her better when shes painted with the rest of the case. So I finally got cracking back onto the case.....i didnt fully finish the front bezel in the last update and as the weather is getting worse ive not had much time outside doing this project but as today is a day off and the sun was out i decided to get crackin'. Hers the inside of the bezel done...some parts simply dont need the sanding as they are so small and fiddly and also its gonna be covered by a door so people aint gonna be seeing it that much....but she is a smooth as a babys bum.
Well it seems i have finally finished the prep work for the entire outside pannels for the case. shes completly sanded down and even tho it dosent look like in the pics all the pannels are SUPER smooth Onto the pics!! So all pannels are done..all paint removed...all edges smoothed, all buttons smoothed, all symbols and raised lettering removed and finally all nast plastic texture is completly removed!!!! Now....the next jobs will be cutting of the blow holes and prep work for placement of hardware ....i dont think that this project will be over soon.. Untill next time!!!....and pleased leave feedback or any suggestions!!
Gotta get me one of those card readers!! Orange LED, deffo Case is looking good, can't wait to see it painted up!
