Modding Project all-plexi keyboard --KONG is a god!! -- no really! he is!!!

1st of all - YAY my 300th post

I took apart my Mom's Nokia 8210 and WOWzers, Ultrabright bloooo SMD leds. I dont know WHERE Nokia got em from (prolly made em) but they were at least 5-6000mcds or more, my eyes REALLY hurt...its a possible idea!

 

You can buy replacement nokia led's. They're a bit pricey. I think I found a place that would sell them for about £10 for 15 or something. The bloo ones are mroe expensive cos everyone aparently wants a bloo fone. *shrugs*

okay, just a quick idea on how you could make the buttons. I have included a l33t paint image i made.

the key its self still sits flush, but it has a ridge milled out of it so that it pokes up out of the hole. before milling, the key should be BIGGER than the hole. there should be a gap below the key, but only a small one. this gap alows the key to have some leway when pressing (dont hit a key by mistake). But if you have a gap thats too big the key will just slip under the plexi. you need to make the bit the key pushes on so that it has very little travel till it touches the membrane.

It just my 2c worth.

 

That would actually be an 8250 unless the LEDs were replaced. 8210s have green. A good source of SMD LEDs is those cheapo flashing batteries you can get for mobiles. You can pick them up for a couple of quid and they can have about 40 LEDs in.

Holy Buggery Bollocks the CNC had the worlds most monumental mare when i tried to tell it to cut.... it kept on crashing. it would not stop crashing-- i can provide a pic of the CNC with BSOD if you want.... KONG!!! can you cut it for me if i provide u with a design in whatever format you need?

What's going on then? You done the CAD, got the g-code, then yer machine crashed? Mail me the DXF, I'll take a look and get back to you tomorrow. It seems like a good project, so if it's not too complicated, I'll do it for cost of the acrylic. No promises though!
