Scratch Build – In Progress Project : Alu Blue [Update: 26 Feb] Detail Work

Hey everyone

I finally got started with my second scratch build
This is my first build log so i hope its all gonne be OK
I mostly will work at the weekends and sometimes in the evenings

The project:

I first started looking around at other builds.
And had come to the conclusion that I did not wanted to make a simple simple square case. (like my first scratch build)
I eventually come to a design with a slightly wider bottom for the radiator and a tight upper side.
I made the designe with Inventor and made a couple of renders.
I'm especially good with metal and plastic, not wood so the choice was quickly made.
I let the pictures speak for themselves.

What will the build contain:

• Water cooling
• A lot of aluminum and acrylic
• Black paint
• Costum turning/milling parts
• Maybe some CNC milling
• Laser cutting
• Costum made res
• A 2x120 and 3x120 rad
• And a lot of blue lights

Hardware:

• Intel Core i7 4770K

Cooling Hardware:

• EK-CoolStream RAD XT 240

• Tubing 16/10mm UV-active blauw
• 6x Zalman 120MM Fan ZM-F3BL BLUE 1800RPM

Those frame square clamps look really handy nice concept & looks a great project lamanl, subscribed .

 

First my special equipment i work with

My drill and smal router table right of it, and vegetables left of it



and my self made belt sander



Behind it you see the sheet 1mm thick anodized aluminum, witch the panels will be made of

Todays work:

My work for today was cutting the aluminum and sanding 45 degrees angle to it
After that putting it al together with ducktape to test
Ending with putting the first parts together with smal triangles(the screws will later be replaced by countersunk rivets)

It's always nice to get the core of the base done & it be nice & square & this is looking good, that DIY belt sander is awesome too .

Some of the costum turning/milling parts i was talking about
I made my own vandalism switch long time ago to build in alu blue V1, but never came to it.
So use it in V2.0
Normal it costs around €20
Self made of klicky
This one is made of scrap for almost free
Used:
scrap stainless steel/acrylic
a blue led
a spring out of a pen
and a switch used in all pc's
and some creative thinking

DIY vandal switch & it looks awesome, nice one

 

Very clever and good looking those corners with countersunk rivets!

And the belt sander is awesome

 

Today i ordered more aluminum

But to do things differently
They will be laser cutted out of 2mm aluminum sheet
The laser cutting parts will contain:

• Self-designed RAD grills
• 1x120mm grill
• 2x360mm grill
• costum harddisk bay
• and the mobo tray

And i had to disassemble my old case (alu blue v1) because i needed parts
so its currently running in a tray with some fans around it (not jet in the picture)
I am building this case so it can house my new components; I7-950 or I7-2600K with a gtx460, gtx470 or gtx560 all fully water cooled
Currently Q6600 and sli 9800GT

A lot more work done today
i started putting things together in the highed
It finaly starts to look like a real case


















Next time i will make the support to hold my dvd player in place and make it able to open
And the support beams to make the case more rigid and give it a better shape to house the radiators(upside down V )

Very nice frame work mate, mod on .

 

I had a busy week, so i was only able to finished the support beams

And already put some weels on it
Only the bolts are not the right size jet

But did alreay some saw work in the dvd rack and HDD holder











More to come on the dvd rack and HDD holder
And i strated with the greation of my needed WC parts and more

Stay tuned, the laser cutting will arrive soon hopefully

 

Now the frame is almost done
But first of all i have to finish the dvd bracket

The material im gonne use for the plate work: 1mm thick anodised Aluminum
