Starting with the aluminium sheet for the front ( that comes behind the acrylic glass )

The original bezels, that I ****ed up with the first attempt to mount the reservoir, don't have to be thrown away. They will be attached to the acrylic/aluminium front. In this way the front can easily be mounted in the case.

You can see the two old bezels behind the acrylic glass.

I drilled some holes into the aluminium.

Next thing is to remove the part where the reservoir is coming. With a hammer and a ????? (beitel in Dutch) I hit the thing lose.

After filing and sanding it looks a lot better.

    It's coming together quite nicely.

I think the word you want is "chisel". At least going by the picture.

Looks nice btw, loving that front setup. The acrylic just looks plain sweet.

Thanks Firehed. I'm glad I can start working on the project again. Had to wait for ages for some vital parts. I hope Aquacomputer hurries up with my order. Ordered the last things I needed for the WC setup.

The AMD FX-55 will be another problem, I can't find any store that has got the thing in stock :waah: Don't want to pre-order the thing. But for now I have enough things I can do and don't need the CPU right now.

P.S. I follow your mod here on Bit-tech closely

The aluminium frontplate is almost finished. Here you see the aluminium and the acrylic plates.

As you can see the Aquaero display will also be placed behind the acrylic glass.

The acrylic glass on top of the aluminium.

It was a real precision work to get the two plates excactly the same.
This is what it looks like in the Lian Li case.

The two plates will have to be cleaned ofcourse. The polishing is not my favourite work, so I decided to buy a cheap polishing machine.

Are you planning on matching acrylic covers for the two plextor drives?

Yes I will use the aluminum with acrylic on top, for the DVD drives and the ejectbuttons, just like the rest of the front. You can see the acrylic parts for the buttons and DVD front in a pictures in a one of my previous posts.

    This is the picture.

Sorry Franklin, I must have missed that picture. I should have known you would take care of the details. :thumb: Great work..
You are going to drill/tap the Plextors drive tray's and use bolts to attach the acrylic covers?

I'd try painting the front parts of the drives (that will only have green plexi, ie the button and tray) greenish so the white doesn't stand out underneath as well. Doesn't need to be UV green but just enough that the plexi won't have this big ugly part stuck out underneath. Of course I've never worked with uv green plexi so maybe it's not necessary but I think it will help.

I don't think the the white will be visible, because I will use the aluminium with the UV plexi on top again, just like the total frontplate.

I haven't decided yet. What do you think? I believe the cover from the Orac3 was mounted with two bolts too.

I will not use bolts for the reservoir through the frontpanel. The res will be mounted in the baydrive rack. I will have to use two extra bolts to attach the acrylic glass firmly to the aluminium plate. In the photographs I've posted you now see only two bolts on top and at the bottom of the frontplate, but somewhere in the middle I will have to use two extra bolts.

In my book, two hexhead bolts is the only way to go. :thumb:
But, be careful drilling the holes. They need to be under the disk-tray. I have done it (on a plextor 708A) and the drive works perfectly, I would say "go for it"..

My first thought was also to attach it with two bolts. I think the DVD tray has to be modified before it will be possible. It has very little room to drill holes. The DVD front is exchangeble and is not like other trays I have ever seen. The DVD drives came with white and black fronts. But nothing is impossible, with a bit of time I will figure out a way to do it.
