    Filing my arms away....

@haofeng - Thanks! It took a while but the PSU is finally done.

I also changed the pictures of the power supply with some more photos and better (IMO) looking pics. Take a look at the new ones on page 2 everyone!

    DAY 14

Day 14 consisted of filing and a couple little odd jobs that I needed done.

    Filing the dust cover.

The O and one of the D's are missing the centers, and I got the replacement pieces and they will go on when I get the plexi back sorted out.

my other weapons of mass destruction. I got these for just a couple bucks and they have served me well!

I also sanded the HDD tray to get it ready to paint.

    DAY 15

More filing! Yes! no....my arms were starting to get sore by the end of day 15.

I also got some filing done on the fan grills but I did not take a pic of them, sorry :(

I had to change the blade out on my bandsaw. It was getting really bad.

    all done
    [IMG]

I got the notch cut out for the fan cable going out the fan shroud at the bottom of the case

    snazzy
    [IMG]

I'm putting 9 green LEDS behind the motherboard to give it a small green glow.

I'l try to get those wired up in the next day or so.

I also wired up the xbox PCB for the front panel power buttons.

It worked great except for the green LEDs, which I'm trying to dort that out now. If they don't work, that's totally fine, I can work around it and still have a glowing green ring around the front panel. The important part was the microswitches, and they work great.

    This place is a mess!

I'm gonna try and get this cleaned back up again and call it a night. My workshop gets like this about every 2 days and it's a pain to work in like trying to find that resistor you misplaced (know I put that somewhere....)

I hope you all enjoy this project, I pormise I'll be rid of that ugly grey primer soon enough! Thanks :thumb:

    cheesecake diversion....

@Cs:sMods4YOU - Thanks, I used green partly because I had some left over, but also because I really liked the color of them. I'm sure it'll look great sitting on my desk as well!

@ComputerKing - Thanks man, I actually got that bandsaw from my awesome uncle who sold it to me for a steal. It has helped me so much on this project as well as my desk build.

    DAY 16

Just a small update for you all, I didn't get much mod time in this weeked due to a heavy workload and a family get together. I was able to get a few small things done so I'll go ahead and share those with you.

I finally figured out how to get the green LEDs to work. They needed 12v and the power led header on my mobo was ony 5v. So I got them wired up to a fan header and was good to go.

I unfortunately did not like the color of them. They did not match the other green LED's I'm using so I had to fix that.

    much better....

here's what it looks like now
    [IMG]

I also extended 2 of the fan's power wires. Luckily they don't have to have all of it sleeved since the naked wires will be hidden.

I alos had to make some repairs on the dust cover with some JB weld. I had made some cutting errors and I think once I get it cleaned up it will not be noticable when it's painted.

    And as promised....

I hope you brought your foons!

I still have some minor tasks to take care of before I put the paint on it, but it won't be long now.

Yeah, they were cheap and I don't have to use too many to get the effects I want. I don't know if they are true 30,000 but they are bright and have nice color. Out of 100 I haven't came across a dud yet. I never have had a problem with besthongkongs products.

    color me bad...

    @ ry@n - Thanks! :thumb:

I was able to get some time in the past couple of days inching ever so closer to the final result.

    DAY 17

Mostly just prep work and small things to be done now before paint day.

more prep on the dust cover
    [IMG]

prep work on the LCD top frame
    [IMG]

I got the power connector also wired up for the LCD. I did not want to run it off the PSU because it's a no-name. (shame on me :worried:)

    fan controller before paint
    [IMG]

    CPU fan before paint
    [IMG]

dust cover - should be ready for paint!

I also painted the CPU fan and the fan controller as well.

    DAY 18

Here's how the CPU fan and fan controoller turned out. Pretty nice!

I also managed to get the LED's wired upfor behind the mobo. This a picture of the backside (it's a bit messy and temporary!)

here's a picture of my jig for wiring LED's in sets of 3 or 4.

My moral support and alarm clock at 8 a.m. if I like it or not. She stays with me while I mod and she doesn't even mind the sound of power tools!

    DAY 19

Today was paint day for 95% of the case. It went well with no runs in the paint. Yesss!

I also finished up the wiring harness for the LCD
    [IMG]

Man, I know I say it all the time, but you simply can not go wrong with white. It makes everything look so clean and simple.

A+ on your color choice, crudd :thumb:

@pksjaveed - Welllllll that's a bit of a rut I'm in right now. The other day I was practicing more and my compressor took it's final breath. Not only has my compressor died, I just wasn't happy with how the piece was turning out. I'm not gonna muck up a nice case with a bad painting on the side since I've worked on it so hard. I think I'll just go down to the sign shop and get a nice applique made of the galaxy.

@The boy 4rm oz and MrWizard - Thanks! I was going with white to give it that clean "space shuttle" look, like inside the space shuttles.

ahh yea something told me you were gonna have som troubles !! as the galaxy is too much work to paint plus you need a lot of paint and midcoat!!! i guess its a way better to get applique!! hope it goes well

Clean.:D A bad comparison though. I've always got the impression the inside of the space shuttle was like the inside of a McDonalds ball pit.

Oh I have lots of paint and colors and it really isn't that hard of a piece, I just don't have enough faith in my own skills to put it on something I've worked so hard on lol. I'm sure with due time I'll get more confident but it's a no-go for now. I also don't have the cash as the moment to buy a new compressor so an applique will have to suffice.
