I recently started building a new computer and I needed somthing to house my baby. I chose the Enermax CS-501B case for several reasons. 1. I wanted somthing different that I havent seen anyone else mod yet.(Though I could be wrong.) 2. I wanted to mod the home of my computer myself instead of getting one pre-modded. Here are some shots of the case when I first got it. I thought up a few things I wanted to do to the case to make it up to my specifications. After figuring out a basic idea of some of the things I wanted to do I went ahead and started on my window. The side panel all drawn out and ready to be cut. My weapons of choice. Airsaw and a air powered deburr tool. After a little bit of hacking we have a rough outline of what the window will look like. After countless hours the work finally paid off and we have the hole for the window. After all the deburring was done the window was popped in then the locking strip. Another shot of the window installed. Check out all the finger prints. Window after I hosed it down with some Windex and whiped it clean. After all that work the window turned out pretty. Here is the side panel installed on the case. Yet another eye candy shot. Sorry about the stuff on the cam. Dual Exhaust to me fixed up, some kind of solution to get airflow through the front of the case, front fan grill cut out.
Pretty sexy case you got there mister Does this mean it will rust? I had one of them InWin Q500s and its the current office case and its rusting its self into a grave.....hrm!
Can't wait to see where you go with this.. That's some pretty thick "locking strip", or window surround. Blends well though.
bsodmike: The case is made so that it wont rust. I would be so mad if it rusted Solarius: The locking strip actually isnt big. The molding is what is big. Im glad it blended well. I have another cool little idea im going to do to it later on. Thanks for all the comments. I got some more updates coming soon. Still taking suggestions as well.
Update! Just a small update here. I mounted the light switch for my UV CC's and I cut out the front fan grill. Fan Grill: The stock fan grill that came in the case. It let very little airflow through so it had to go. The 120mm hole where the fan used to be. Looks smoother now that its been filed down. The green UV reactant fan that goes in the hole. I had to stick the fan grill on the inside until I sleeve the wires so it wouldnt suck all my wires into the fan. Light Switch: The floppy bezel where the switch for my lights will be mounted. The flash brought out scratches that can only be seen with the flash. Black Rocker switch for my 2 UV CC's. The finished product. Switch installed into bezel and bezel back in its place.
Thanks XGamer. I had planned on painting the inside of the case to match but im not exactly sure if I am or not. Im still thinking about it though. Would look pretty neat. Believe it or not I do have some original ideas coming up. Shouldnt be too much longer.
I think you should paint the inside in UV-green ,just like the fan`s. That would be great! Don´t worry about rust on your case, just paint it with many layers and clear coat and you will not get problems. My steel case is probably older then yours and it´s not rusty. That is just because it is properly painted . Modd on!
Plenty of stuff coming up. Soon Dual Exhaust Mod Front Intake Idea LCD Screen Somewhere Backlit Slot Drives UFO Mod Lighted Acrylic Case Feet Paint Inside UV Sleeve PSU Few Other Suprises Later On Watercooling LCD Screen
Fr0z3n, sorry for not posting sooner been slaking on my reading. Nice job on the window…did you have a problem using that air saw on that door? I find the vibration from those things very annoying and if you’re not careful they will jump right out of the hole. You should try an air nibbler next time, their great and fast also. Keep up the good work…
Bluebark Thanks Bluebark. The air saw worked perfectly fine for cutting the window. Vibrated really badly but I had a friend and some table clamps holding it down so it helped. Next time I will try a air nibbler and see how it works. Thanks for the suggestion. DRxAndy The window is quite generic yes. I have some cool ideas that will fix it up and make it not so generic.
Update! Finally got around to ordering my Modders Mesh and fixing up the front intake on my case which had no air flow. The front panel is actually in two pieces because of the little drive bay cover with the sliding action. The front of the case before. The front 120mm fan was completely useless. :/ The front panel after I took all the buttons off. The Buttons The two front panel pieces. A wierd design, but works. Front Panel after just being cut. The switches on the front panel all cut out. All sanded up and pretty. Second half of the front panel marked and ready to be cut. Rough cut of panel. Needs some sanding.
Modders Mesh....wooo pretty. Testing to see how it looks. and yet again Mesh marked and ready to be cut out. Freshly cut mesh; all ready to be installed. Mesh plastered into the front panel using some really lovely smelling (not) 5 minute Epoxy. The front panel all done and ready to be installed. Some USB wires I sleeved and hid in the front panel so my fan wouldn't eat them. Angled View of the front panel installed and ready to go. Notice you cant see any USB wires. Well thats all for this update. Got plenty more in store for this case.
