Case Mod - In Progress Project BIO-A10 by E.E.L. Ambiense - Completed

This is actually the first mod with a weathered look that I REALLY like! I've others that were "ok" and "meh"... But this just looks so damn good for some reason!

 

Not going to lie dude, I think you missed a few spots with the final coat of paint.... I was expecting more from you!

 

there must be some "dirt" between leds and led holder... oh AWESOME BUILD!!!1!

 

lovin the details and choice of unique colors, that only EEL could make work!

and I spy "An EEL with an Airbrush" .... I wanna see this build on cover of CPU!

 

SWEEET! -And now for the million dollar question: How did those LEDs get scratched up so badly inside the rusty vag?
Did you ever get rid of your albino liger infestation?

 

LOL, awww come on. I'm sure I don't sound conceited, right? Have I ever? Seriously? LOL? I just meant in the sense of my personal liking of how the mod is going so far; not a statement of "I'M GOD'S GIFT TO THE WORD MOD!". That's reserved for Bill! And I mean that with all sincerity; not as a kiss-up, lol.

To clarify (since it's the internets and not everyone understands things as intended) to those that don't know me that may be skimming the logs, I'm not a d-bag. I may come off as one, and if I do then your internal sarcasm-translator is on the fritze and you should get it checked out. Hopefully, you bought the extended warranty for it.

Thanks, bro! I'm trying to keep the momentum going here so I can get the thing done, but more stuff pops up and I want to keep adding stuff to it. It's a vicious cycle, as you know only too well.

LOL, very good question, bro. I'll have to think of something for that one; gotta keep the tradition of having a back-story for the features (or lack there-of) on this mod!

Regarding the infestation, well....it's always hard to tell. I hope so! I'm keeping up on regular weekly spraying around perimeter, etc.; usual stuff I do but I've stepped it up a bit too.

Log Update #24

Update time! Let's get to it.

Continuing on with the modder's mesh from hell. I needed to make the exhaust side of the case where the rad/fan assembly will reside. I had cut the mesh and now needed to mark it out for drilling.



Some quick holes drilled into the mesh...



...and it's ready for paint and weathering.



Quick couple coats sprayed onto the mesh and sanding block and steel wool love!



All done. --Actually, not quite. Let's continue the idea from the intake side of the case... The mesh has rusted away to nothing and replaced with some other kind of mesh.

Some quick impromptu jigsawing...



And here's roughly how it'll look.



Changing the subject, back to the fans. I made some fan-hub stickers like I've done for practically every mod project I've ever done; I just hate seeing gaudy stickers on the hubs, ya know? Unless, of course, I put them there myself!



I finished up on one of the 120mm-version Xigs supplied by Performance-PCs so I can finish up on the front plate. I decided I didn't really want to install LEDs on this one so I'll leave it alone. With the lighting inside the case, you'll be able to see the blades while it's on regardless of LEDs...



There we go! Ready for final install. Hopefully I have everything I need inside the bays already.



Oh yes, also attached the lower mesh where the former-120mm fan-spot on the front of the case was. Matches the rest of the weathered stuff.

I used "Tape of the Gods" to attach it because that stuff sticks so well that if it were criminal charges it would probably have stuck to Capone! Only screw is through the lower-middle just in case. And it is in a case, so isn't that convenient!



If you don't have a roll of the stuff, you should. Seriously. Don't screw around with imitations!

Alright, back to installing the front plate...



Now, I almost forgot about the rheobus knobs. Let's weather those, yes?

I like to use all kinds of rotary tool attachments. It's fun. And it really gives me an excuse to use all those other weird attachments that no one really bothers with unless you're a stickler for details!

Here's a nice one. Wire brushes work wonders when you want a nice, subtle kind of rubbed effect.



I stuck the knobs on a ratcheting screwdriver tip to hold it in place while I carefully weathered them.



It really gives the knob the "I've been turned a million times already by greasy, stinky, shady men in some clandestine underground bunker/installation/manufacturing plant, and I have no signs of failing just yet" kind of effect, ya know?



Of course, that statement has a whole other meaning when you change the wording slightly so it's phrased "I've been turning tricks"

A quick install to see how it's going to look... I'm happy!

Oh yes, B&D all the way. Dremel....well....let's just say I have a drawer full of dead ones. I bought two of the B&D at the time -- one for use and other as backup.....I haven't used the backup yet, and it's been 3-4 years now if that says anything.
