Very interesting effect there! Yeah, that green LED sticks out like a sore thumb I feel sorry for the guy sitting across the table from you at a LAN lol
Thats a pretty cool tripod-shot..INyourFACE.. That power-on LED is connected to the Aqua-Computer Aquaero. It's intensity is adjustable. BUT AC's aquaero software is bad--very bad (at least the 1.0.52 version)..All but unusable. I set-up the Aquaero via its front panel buttons. I need to Flash&upGrade to the beta 4.31 I just have not had the time. That GREEN LED caught me "with my pants down"..I did not think it would be visible. With the design of our Vseries cases, I guess I should have seen-it-coming.. But it is VERY visible, any ideas? Please don't tell me to take out the MB and solder in a red LED..
Solder in a red LED --d'oh! Apart from painting it black I do not see any other solution. You could slap a red filter on it but that would almost kill its glow (still, can't be worse than painting it black).
Looking pretty snazzy As Firehed said I feel sorry for the guy sitting to the right and back of your box. The guy to the right will get creamed while he keeps admiring your case window and the guy behind you will get mesmerized by the evil red light.
I believe if you look in the Allied Electonics catalog (http://www.alliedelec.com) I think you can find a small red lens to fit over the MB LED. Besides Staples, Allied is one of my favorite modding stores. For the quick and dirty method some red cellophane would do wonders.
just shrink some heat shrink over the LED you may need to fill in the end of the heatshrink with bondo or something though as it will only be smaller, not completely closed off
hmm heatshrink is a decent idea. black electrical tape maybe. well, assuming it's a 5mm type and not one of the surface mount ones. you could try to just rip it off with a pair of pliers Isn't there a surface-mount one on your 6800U too (mine each have one near the power connector)?
Yes it is a Eluminx keyboard. I need to find something else (the blue doesn't go with the color-scheme). I was thinging about the Logitech diNovo set Logitech want's "tall-paper" for that set, but that is the coolest keyboard I have ever seen..
I don't need the motherboards "power-on" LED.. I think I will have more then enough red LED's in the case to provide lighting.
With what you've spent to date, how can you slow down now? It's only money and you are just about done. Zip Zoom Fly DiNova Bluetooth for $178 Logitech $50 Rebate You can save a few dollars by purchasing the USB version instead of bluetooth, but it would cheapen the mod.
I agree. The keyboard is one of the coolest I have ever seen, but I am not a big fan of USB keyboards..Thinking and Looking for other options....
I personally use a Dell multimedia keyboard (PS/2) and am really glad I picked it up. Looks like they only have a newer one and only in USB... kinda wish I picked up more when I had the chance, they were only like 8 bucks at the time. I've never loved USB keyboards either - I don't see the point in wasting the port if I can help it, plus I lower the chances of having issues if I'm in DOS for some reason (bios flash or whatever, though I use windows-based flashers when I can)
Yes, USB keyboards are not the answer (in my book anyway).. I like my eluminX board...But the blue back-lighting looks odd next to all the red on BN..I don't think they make one w/red..I wonder what would be involved in doing a little "mod" on the one I have..Something to think about anyway.
Funny talking about keyboards. I just ordered one of these for my blue lit mod. They're not cheap. $100-$120 US. Of course red and blue are more expensive. They have them in red too. Here are some specs. Tech Specifications: * Lighting: All keyboard characters are INDIVIDUALLY backlit by single L.E.D.'s. Each and every key, NOT just the frame and gaps in between. * The L.E.Ds: Déck's lights are rated at 200,000 hours of life. That's pushing 22 years if the Déck is never turned off. It has seven different intensity levels and full brightness is tweaked to 5.25 milliamps. * Bottom Pan: Industrial diamond plate metal. Not just mere plastic. * Connection/Interface: USB 1.1; Type A plug. No separate cord, Déck is powered by your PC. * MTBF (mean time before failure): 86,000 hrs. * Switches: Will absorb near 20 years of heavy use. Déck is constructed with 50-million cycle switches and gold cross point key switches. Putting it into perspective, the keyboard you are using right now is most likely using 1 million cycle and no gold. * Board: The FR4 (fiberglass printed circuit board material) is built for strength, reparability and straightness. We reinforced the double-sided plate through holes with a black solder mask. * Op Temp: Décks operate smoothly from minus 40°C to plus 70°C. So you're safe in both Antarctica and Death Valley. You never know, you know? * Key Caps: Characters can't chip off the key caps or wear down to oblivion. Period. Déck uses a sublimated negative printing process which drives the ink into the plastic keycaps at 525°f. This means permanent printing from the inside out, not on. * Add ons: Décks ship with an extra skull & crossbones key cap. Setting the stage for your mod. * Typing Rate: Type up to 240 characters per second! Go that fast and still get the codes out in the right sequence. You cannot type this fast. Ever. I know you don't like USB keyboards and neither did I until I saw this. *Actually the red is $20 cheaper than the blue!
