Always wanted to have a digital picture frame, but unable to fork out £££ for one? Here's my feeble attempt at saving a few bob ;)

    Remove all unneccesary bits

Put it into a frame of your choice

Add the keyboard as well (it wouldnt boot without it)

    It works!

    More pictures here.

Still got some stuff to do like inventing a on/off switch, reducing hdd noise (either a CF or solid state disk most likely) and find a way of controlling it with a IR remote, but that's just minor details ;)

    Q.

Due to its size probably hanging on a wall. For now it just stands on a drawer.

I reckon it must be possible to convince it that the KB still attached...

Maybe if you know electronics, you may be able to, but as I don't... Fortunately with the keys removed it isn't that much thicker.

did you have to buy an extension cable for the LCD to reach the computer? The one on my laptop is really small

Have you tried looking in the BIOS settings for an option to boot without the keyboard present? It could be that such an option exists (it did for me when I was setting up my server).

No extension cables needed. As you can see from the pictures on my site it was just long enough for the motherboard to be flipped behind the screen. These flat cables are a bugger to get hold off, and I'm not even sure if they have some sort of standard between them.

As TTmodder rightly says, it is a laptop, it normally doesn't come without keyboard ;).

But even if it did, the BIOS on these Thinkpads is very basic; just boot order and perform internal tests are possible.

you could always dismember an old keyboard, and get the controller from it and just plug in the control, thus fooling the comp into thinking it has a keyboard pluged in.

nice idea for the picture by the way :)

unless the controller, needs to have some of its pins wired together/to ground/to power
