Project Name: Blue Qube After several months in college, bordem has finally set it after having only a Shuttle Pc, and nothing more to do. So I began looking into MINI pc's more, mainly based around the EPIA platform because of its flexibility. This case is based off some drawings done durring the design of a upcomming case, and is done for a friend with a Car PC. Its simple in design, construction, and yet pricy and time consuming in its production. First we start out with one heck of a messy shop after installing a stereo, lcd, and wiring in a friends car. Better! Ignore the Ford 289 V8 and Ford 1926 Model T T truck~ The layout~ 1.st section, handle (also look for a case inspired by the handle selection at home depot), 6/32 bolts and round nuts. The leds, buttons, and for neatness heatshrink. The 10x10 1/8inch dark blue plexi from TAP plastics, color sample on top.
The 1/16th inch aluminum angles and 1/8inch bars in varied lengths. The 300w powersupply out of its case. Fins bent to conserve space, this is a 2 fan system at 7v each . Now it took some time to figure out how the heck to get this to fit all together, so I spent alot of time playing with the peices. Remember this case had NO prior though to it other then a cube drawing... It turned out i could take 11/16 of one side, and 3/4 off the other and make it fit nicely enought for me. I mean this is going to be in a trunk for the most part of its life. Here is how its cut. Test fitting. A basic idea of how its starting to take shape.
Now I made a mistake, I cut the aluminum angles used all at once, not compensating for the 1/8inch overlap on each side... DOH. The Dremal quickly fixed my mistake... This is how it all lines up, the holes are spaced 2inch in on each side, 3/8 in from the edge. The bottom bolted together, whats nice is the bolts act as feet- Heres it from the inside, note- get proper bits or you will crack the plexi like I did in the corner. And here is sits for the night, all drilled, bolted up, and awaiting some fabrication for teh rear access pannel. Front. Back. More Tommorow... Spyder
Looking good. I keep toying with the idea of making a plexi/aluminium case. I think seeing this one might just temp me to start it. Keep up the good work can't wait to see updates......
It's already starting to look cool to me! (Dont tell me you're building the V8 into the T-Ford right? THAT would be a killer monster )
Just slightly OT, but while it was messy, why did you have an elephant sized condom on the workbench?
never thought i would say this (ok ok type shut up) but i want to see the model t rebuilt not the computer. it is hard being a gearhead and a computer geek at the same time back on thread it looks like its going to be a solid build up, i like the idea of cuting out the corners for the l brackets to get a better cleaner fit. and what brand psu is that, it looks preatty empty even if it is only 300watts, but that might just be because it is nekkid (i.e out of the box)
Very nice and solid. I like this idea a lot. So what is it, I cant find if you said it, 14 inch cube? Looks like a great project
Lookin good! I especially like your workshop Nice view out the window too - is that a small lake or a river?
Well this is delayed until the weekend, had to go back to college for a few days, this is about how far I got, just doing layout. (note cdrom will NOT be cut like that, but steathed) Now heres a question for people How should i do fans? 1 Front 1 Back or 1 left side 1 right side? Im thinking the 2nd set would work the best.... (Little Q and A now...) That model T is one of 2 I own, that ones perfectly restored, runs great, has all the options including electric start. Theres a 2nd one being built with a Chevy 350 th350 tranny 9inch rear, mustang II front end. The massive condom is a plastic bag.... lol Ill make a post in the auto form one of these days. That 289 is bored .060 over, 302 heads, performer 289 intake, 650cfm carb, short headers, high volume fuel pump, HV oil pump. Should be good for 350hp, which sits in a 67 mustang coupe Kinda sad.... its older brother the 400hp 302 in my Tbird ripped the rear end off my car... doh...
Re: Re: Project Blue Qube You should see all da sweet rides Spyder and his family has, Lookin sweet as always Spyder, keep up the excellent work
Linear made a 10" plexi cube case here. He put his fans on the sides at the top near the back of the case (kept his front panel nice and clean looking). Maybe check out what he did with his case, as it's very similar to what you are doing and you might get some layout ideas off it? I like the Alu frame and the idea of blue perspex. Planning on lighting it? (do I even need to ask this, lol? ) Keep up the good work.
