I know, I have one I do a lot of work on very small electronics etc so im familiar with using one... Ive just never tried using these little LED's before...

Unfortunately, after close inspection, I discovered that the LCD module is a sealed unit, and while I could dismantle that to get at the LED's, I wont, as there is no need and this was a very expensive unit which I do not want to have to replace... Pics illustrate what I mean.

Righty o, time for an update of the mod to date. Its all been fiddly small things so far, but I say its all the small things that makes it one big cool thing!

As you can see, there will be a LOT of wires to route... Lol its my speciality


Thats DVD burner housing is sooo gettin sprayed black. Matt will do, i just hate the look of it in that colour. Will pick up a tin of black spray paint tomorrow and do it then...

 

Lookin good so far, Will be waiting for more updates.

Thanks positive comments on that are much apreciated.. Other people have told me they dont like it but I thought it was cool...

 

PLEASE do something about the all-in one box. Its curvy front is (imo) messing up the front.

Perhaps, a 3 x5.5" bay cover to cover ALL the bays would be nice, stealth the drive, get rid of that curve, and no blank slot (unless there are plans later)

However the 3 bay cover could work with whatever accesory you add in later with abit o moding

If its bothering you that much, I could get an akasa mirage front panel eventually, which has a solid aluminium door that looks like this:


And the CD-rom drive matches the case, just whatever was the flash was in that pic it looks a different shade or something.

The top drive bay is 'reserved' for my repack cooling reservior...

 

Its not that i dont like the front of the case, its just you have curves going horizontally on the front of the case below the bays, and then the all in one box has vertical curves. The dvd player, i cant really tell, but i agree that spraying it black would help tremendously.

The all in one looks fine, and also I think that the door is plastic, not metal.

Nah the door on the new mirage design is a plastic and aluminium hybrid.... See here for details. Custom PC is the hardware reviews mag that I read and thats where I learned about all this stuff...

 

Yea I might buy a black aluminium stealth cover for the drive... Dunno the thing that makes it look different from the rest of the front is the texture/ pattern in the plastic. Its the way the light reflects off it that makes it look different. As for the Allinone, im open to suggestions, although I thought it matched quite well with the curves in both akasa products. (case and controller).

 

for the eclipse, i think you should cut a hole in the alu door, then cut about 2 cm circularly off that circle, mount tinted plexi behind the hole, mount the smaller circle of alu onto the plexi, put like 36 leds all around the circle, wire them up to a pcb, and have them vary in intensity randomly, so it looks like its shining thats kinda complex but sounds cool to me! lol

 

One problem, Theres no door on the eclipse?!

 

not now -_-; u could still cut a circle, mount it in the center, and do the led thingies -_-; it was an idea i posted in response to another post w/o doing too much thread reading XD

 

Aha! Update on the spraying though... I have found out that a friend of mine does airbrushing for her art course (I didnt know til someone told me ) so shes hopefully gonna do it for me sometime within the next couple of weeks...
