very nice job both on the molds and the carbon parts but WHY OH WHY DID U USE THE UD carbon???

i mean u could just take plain weave 195g/sqm carbon and it would make your life so much easier and also look better and cost much less. thats of course unless you didnt have any plain weave carbon. its a shame really. but again overall you did a very nice job :)

that was the only tissue i could get quickly. wait another 1 or 2 weeks was not an option! ( i had to wait for the clear gelcoat about 2 weeks)

the resin i used was a polyester based one. it cost 1/2 of epoxy.

The Cf work is done. You better take an extra look, because you wont see the CF-PARTS for some time.

now we´re starting with the inside of the case. step one. we need a new hdd cage. that´s my final version:

    materials needed: aluminium bar ( 25x5x1000mm )

and a normal aluminium sheet (3mm).

after sanding is started cutting the sheet

    and the bars

ineeded some slits to mount the hdd properly. i tried to drill them out as far as possible.

for everything left i took a keyfile. you see some in the picture above. this took hours!

to connect the sheet and the bars i used m2 screws.

    some testing.

the sheet at the and isn´t strong enough to handle the torque of the hdd´s. the chromed bars will support.

    finished!

this tiny piece holds the cage in place when mounted. screws are m2 too

Does that kind of HDD-cage have a name? It reminds me of xbox... :p
You have some mad modding skills!

Are you sure the slits in the front will be enough to cool the case? The fans will surely have a hard time.

i´m shure they are big enough.

the fans i use in the front are not highpower models. i reduced the intake profil on another mod and there were no problems . if this was the blow side of the fans there would definitly be a problem.
because of this the rips on the top of the case have different angle than the ones in the front.

Ok I have a question for you. Now I build custom fiberglass enclosures for cars and have always made wooden skeletons with cloth on top. My question to you is how you got deep coating of resin on the carbon using the mold? Maybe it is just the picture, but it looks like it has fairly good depth. I am so used to having to dye resin to get the piano finish that its nice to see the finish a mold can leave :)

i cannot speak for him, but i do a little bit of carbon/mold work as well, however i work with pre-preg carbon, no resin required. what i believe he does is paint the inside of the mold with resin then put the cloth in, then paint more resin on until its nice and covered. then you keep it so that gravity works for you (not upside down so all the resin drips out). from there, just clear coat it, polish it, and wax it.

after adding some releasing agent ( some kind of wax for hg surfaces) is applie a layer of clear gelcoat. the gelcoat is really usefull and i didnt how to work without it. next step is to add a lot of resin to the forms where i put the tissue in. at this point there´s quite 2 much resin between tissue and the gelcoat. now it´s time for some brush action to press the resin thorugh the tissue until the tissue is really close to the gelcoat. for the front part it took me about ...1 hour ? adding resin from "the back" like working with gf is nearly impossible. most of the resin has to be on the "form-side"

24h later you can release it and it comes out as seen

What do you do for a living to know so much about Carbon Fibre? I would never imagine making a carbon fibre case by hand.
