yup that's essentially what im going to do, cf sides and a cf figure, also i am going to place blue lighting around (under the keys, etc)

    its screwed in =D

lol, that's actually a dismantled folder holder downer, (don't know proper name), im using that as the wire for the cdrom hinge as it was all that i could find

today i should have completed the cdrom hinge, glassed in the psu cover bit, and completed more of the lcd bit :dremel:

    Loving it so far!

I did not see any materials like masks or gloves. Just please make sure you wear a mask when your cutting or sanding that stuff. Especially the carbon fibre. I realize it sounds like a captain obvious but the stuff is so nasty to breath in Ill take the insult rather then have someone not wear a mask.

Also I noticed on Zaps site he used painters tape on his carbon fibre then cut on the tape to reduce freying on the material. The tape holds the edge together. Useful if you will have extra. Its kind of a neat idea you may want to use.

I love your hinges It sparks ideas how I can solve a problem in my own project. Looking good and cant wait for more.

    g0t safety equipment?

    :D

nice idea with the cf though.. but i think ill be alright, ill be resining it onto the shell, then applying flowcoat for the design and then clear flowcoat over the cf...

so any frays should be under the colored flowcoat

would you happen to know of any good sources of information on fiberglassing on the the internet, or any guides as to working with this material? After reading through your log and seeing the work you have done, I am convinced that fiberglassing will really help me get the shape to the body of my next project that I really want. how well does this stuff hold up to flexing? If it is sanded, primed, and painted, will it resist flexing enough so that that paint will not crack and flake off?

sorry i don't know of any guides on the internet... have a look around and see if you can find any

though after i've finished this project i might do one in the guide forum

basically i learnt to fibreglass over a week while i was doing work experiece

as for flexing, if you build it up to 3 or 4 layers of glass it won't flex at all, provided you have laid it properly, with one or two you may get a little bit of flexing

if you are building it out of fibreglass completely i would suggest not painting it but putting flowcoat on...

okay so now i have practically finished the lcd... and that is all of the structural glassing work done.. HUZZAH!

    so here it is...
this is what i needed the knead-it for, knead-it is an epoxy based dough that goes hard after about an hour, i use it to hold the bolts in...

then i used some more on the lcd hinge...

    and voila!

now all that i have to do is...
    - cut out stuff for back panel..
    - touchup lcd hinge
    - drill button holes (btw if anyone has a good idea for this feel free to share :D , i can make any shape button)
    - filler & sand
    - cf
    - flow coat!!!

by 2moro i should be up to applying the cf... :dremel:

Can you elaberate a little what flowcoat is? Im guessing it what will make the surface shiny but ive never heard of it before.

    Flowcoat = clearcoat ?

    thx guys... :)

have you ever heard of a product called gelcoat?
well if you have flowcoat is gelcoat but has a wax in it so you can apply it on the laminate last...

    if you haven't...
    taken from http://www.fiberglass-hoods.com/
i believe that the hood on that was done with gelcoat..

so hopefully it will look something like that...

    also gelcoat is a resin

also does anyone have a good suggestion for the design.. i was going to do the headphone girl on it.. but now im not so sure...
