My parents own a scrapbook store. I sold it to them for them to make templates, rubber stamps, and stuff like that. I can still use it for my modding. I have to build them a PC to work as a design/print station though.
Dude, that's probably as quiet as anyone needs...I mean sound is going to be covering up ANY ambient noise the fans make, and I doubt they'll make any noise at all. Is that black space in the pic of the TV screen some kind of Samurize monitoring config?
Oh, no that isn't the screen at all. The TV has a black plastic cover over the speakers, that are just below the screen. I have actualy thought about removing it and painting it silver for a total match.
That's pretty cool zap, where do you find all the inspiration? Whenever I read one of your posts/logs I find myself going "now why didn't I think of that"
I have an idea for the side panel. The side panel of the PC is not normaly visible where the PC sits, but as it's modded I still want it to look cool if I pull the PC out for show. I have decided on blue lights, but rather then having a side window, I will paint the back of the window plexi silver to match the case, then etch a pattern into the silver. With blue lights behind it it will look pretty cool, as the pattern will light up. Currently I am thinking of a Ice Crystal pattern, making it look cold or frozen. (Also I will use a fresh sheet as plexi, as the existing plexi on the case is too high quality to do experimenting on)
hmmmm..... i was thinking..... the security camera is for ur front door and records stuff to your computer.... but wouldnt you think that if someone were to break into your house they'd probably grab the computer?.... maybe i'm thinking way off track
I'm thinking he wants the camera more as a cool way of seeing who's at the door, but could come into use if anything bad were to happen.
everything but the temp of them hard drives seems cool The key to cooling a hard drives is taht the sides of them need to have the heatsinks attached to them, after that you can stuff them with as much sound proofing material as long as you put a fan ( one 5v 80mm fan for every two hard drives is enough air) Akasa is crap, try brown bread or better yet a vynil composite, that stuff is the best sound proofing ( and 1-2 C raising) material money can buy For your httc i would really recommend adding some of this material around the optical drives, they dont overheat and you can really cut back on the sound of a dvd playing during a movie OH and in case I forgot sweet setup
I think its pretty awesome you hooked your parents up with the lazer cutter. It sounds like they will get good use out of it. good luck with your project
The camera software can upload the images to a FTP server (Offsite) The images would be on the internet before the theif could steal the PC. In either case I have a seperate security system for the house anyways. So it's more to see who is/was at the door, either while I am at home or after I get home. Also my wife is short, and my apartment won't install a lower peep-hole. I did get the $12 camera yesterday, and it's worth $12. It has good images during the day, but at night, even with a porch light it can't see a thing. I am going to have to save up some money and get their $100 0.0003 Lux camera that can pretty much see in the dark. I am not worried about the HD temps, I didn't want to sped $20 or $30 per drive for seperate coolers. The Akasa stuff is some material I had won, just never used. I hear bath-tube noise reducing material from home-depot is cheap and effective though. Also there is no need to make the DVD driver quieter, as I play my DVDs on a seperate player. The units in the HTPC are for burning and ripping.
Zap Radioshack makes a low level light security camera. No sense in spending a fortune on a camera when you can get something similar for cheaper.
I used to work there, even then I would refer customers to Supercircuits rather then RS's cameras. To which camera are you refering? The don't have many under $100 Link to RS cameras Also, a camera with attached Infrared LEDs is technicaly not a low-light camera. They are merly a B/W camera with extra illumination.
The camera you linked above. "0.1 lux minimum illumination and 240 lines of resolution" Camera from Supercircuits that is better then the above: http://207.207.29.130/STORE/prodinfo.asp?number=PC6EX2&variation=&aitem=1&mitem=11 $35- 420 lines of resolution, 0 Lux running on IR, and 0.1 Lux without IR. The camera I plan to purchase: http://207.207.29.130/store/prodinfo.asp?number=PC180XS&variation=&aitem=6&mitem=14 $90, 0.0003 lux (No IR LEDs needed) 420 lines resolution. Sure IR leds are great, but they have a limited range also.
