Well im gonna start by saying this: its my first mod!!!
Yay lets get right into it.

My mod is going to be based on the radioactive sign and the 'caution' strip:
This was roughly done in paint!

Though, I hope it will turn out great :D

So i bought my self a Dremel and got started on the crappy run down case i had
    [IMG]
This is the Dremel im using, pretty pro eh?

    and we have the case
    [IMG]
    nothing pretty to look at.

    sorry about the angle

Okay now the story with this hole is: I was bored, i had a spare fan(small) and i had a drill. i did this about a year ago and now this hole looks bad.

so what did i do? use the dremel of course!
    look at that hole!

Then i took out the rivets. the trick is to get the drill bit thats just a bit bigger than the hole for the rivets. then just drill it and it will come of.

I though that i might start with something easy, so i took of the front panel (after drilling out about 20 rivets then realizing it wasn't riveted on!)

    ok here is the front

then i cut out the usb port/bay

At this moment my idea was to put a vertical cdrom drive somewhere on the front case.

here is the back of the front ... lol

i cut 2 peices of that wood that has several sections (forgot the name)

then masking taped the wood to the plastic(for drilling[ i havent bought a vice yet!])

i used some screws that i had left over:
    (close up)

as you can see i cut/dremel off the ends so they wouldnt interfere with the cdrom drive(they still do but the drive fits)

ok so i mounted the drive
    [IMG]

then, with my trusty dremel, i cut out the front
    [IMG]

    and also sanded it

since you cant reach the button im going to solder some wires onto the drive
    [IMG]

the round design didnt look to good so i cut it a bit
    [IMG]

ok thats what i did in the past 3 days... ill have more for you soon.

    Thanks 4 reading :D

The fan hole doesn't still look too perfect, but definitely better than the old one.

The idea of the optical drive is neat! I hope it works too :)

Reminds me of my first mod went for that exact colour scheme, I love the hazard look and industrial look on cases, and i shall keep track of this as im liking the whole drive location i think thats wicked.

    Good job

I really like that idea you're doing for the CD-ROM... interesting. Do you plan on putting something behind the tray so when it's in the drive you're not looking into the case?
You've got a nice project on your hands for your first case.. good luck!
Not quite sure about the hole on the top though.. I've tried using square holes for fans and was disappointed in the end. Myself in your case I would cut out a top window and add a fan to that, that way if you screw up the fan hole.. you simply replace the piece of acrylic, I mean you already have the grooves to guide you there! Here's what I did that helped me ALOT when I was cutting out window panels with rounded edges.. use a bi-metal holesaw that is the diameter of the curved corners and drill those out first. Then use your nice Dremel with a reinforced cutoff wheel and slowly join the corners. Use a file and some light sandpaper to finish the edges. Also be sure to apply masking tape everywhere when you're cutting. It could save you from a couple scratches. I often put one layer everywhere and a second layer around the edge I'm about to cut off for that extra layer of dremel-slip protection.

Good luck and keep at it!

Wow, I'm looking forward to how this will look in a more finished version! There are quite a few nice ways this can be designed =)

    Keep it coming!

    UPDATE 8/March/07

Ok im back, a meer 12 hours later! and i have some more pics!!!!
    Though i had a bit of a stuff-up lol.
as seen in my last post with pictures, i cut out that cd-rom drive with the dremel but i cut out an important part that didnt let it read the cd (ie the thing that turns the cd wouldnt come up).

So i just got another cd-rom drive out and began modding that(last year sometime i found a whole bunch of cdrom drives [when the local tip collection comes around] so i just took them :D with Rage.(dot) lolz)

I did a light spray paint of the whole front, just to see if it would look good all in black

so this is what i have done :

i have decived to put a modded hdd on the front near the top ie where the drive bays are!

so here is my 10gig WD hard drive and im going to put a window in it!

and ive made a clean room for the hard drive.
    Clean room/hdd mod articles

I will post photos of the finished mod in 6 or so hours and maybe even a video
