Okay, so where did you get them? I'm very interested in this because all the places I've looked at so far has been either hindeously expensive or were missing a few things.
That's about £500 GBP... doesn't seem far off at all. That's a precision grade machine part you're looking at, not the random run of the mill stuff you usually find in DIY CNCs. I can't wait to see the new mill take shape lenne!
What a beauty ! Ebay, german retailer, bought some other stuff aswell, offered me the kress base model for 160 E
ok, after weeks of waiting for the deliveries im finally back in business Some gear for the alu profiles All the profiles, spindles an linear rails together ( i think they like it ) Starting the assembly ! Cutting alu profiles ( lets just say my plans werent final when i ordered ) Safety gear etc, metall cutting likes fingers... Parts of the base frame assembled One linear rail just hopped onto the frame, couldnt stop it... Thats it for now, coffee induced madness over for today
If you don't mind me asking, how much did all that 80/20 aluminium cost? Last time I checked, that stuff ain't cheap!
al together it was like 600 euros ( with the connectors etc etc ) but what do u mean with 80 / 20 ? the dimensions are either 45 x 45 or 90 x45 ? i ordered carbon fibre for the upcoming nautilus mod, so that should start really soon aswell !
80/20 Cheesecake!!! A great source in the USA for that is http://myworld.ebay.com/8020inc/ on ebay. Surplus parts for about 75% of as new price. Just find the sizes you need. They also sell some new extrusions as well on there.
some progress sliding in the linear rails Checking measurements, preparing for drilling Marking holes Affter drilling ( only 6mm holes so far ) To be continued
wicked sick i would say I could install the first spindle today, im so happy everything worked out ! Drilled the bigger holes for mounting the spindles ( 27mm through 30mm alu, the drill stopped a couple of times, couldnt hadle the torque, i did it together with a friend, he handled the wd40 spraying and the emergency switch ) a bit of sanding and breaking the edges ( yeah, theyll cut you, got two stitches last weekend ) Spindle mounted, still without the supports with the bearings other end Cutting a 6mm thread into one support Mounted, checking if everything is angular and fits ! (the alu plate in the background just sits there for checking, it won be mounted like that ) Drilling the motor holder to 6mm Everything mounted, what a relief random stuff i bought, alu sawblade, plugs for the controller box, new insulated cabes for the motors an generic metall disks for the angle grinder maybe tomorrow ill manage to mount the second spindle, ill see...
noo i mean the actual spindles, was already wondering what they are called but im pretty sure its spindles, at least in german it is
In professional language ballscrews or leadscrews are often called spindles. They are simply rotating axes of a machine. In casual speak, only the main spindle is called a spindle. The structure looks really solid for a router. Nice work!
Ah, thanks javerh for clearing that up its a bit different in german, even though the words are quiet similar
