I think he meant on the carbon, towards the top.
I'd go with the switch towards the bottom, but placing it next to the aquatube at the top of the case will also be nice I think.

Yeah lived in bris all my life, well apart from 4 years at uni over in Cardiff :)

I've not done a project in sometime, I've been too busy, having a wee baby and moving house don't half kill my modding time! When I get the garage roof sorted I will get around to setting up a proper workshop tho, so hopefully that will change. Currently I'm mainly modding my new mountain bike & house, well that and dealing with nappies :D

On the top on the cf. I think next to aquatube would look a bit odd. Whereas the aqua looks ace and very clean almost like its always been there already. Putting the switch there may crowd it too much. :)

Its like those cases with ports on the top it seems odd to me, I prefer the clean look on top, only those things that need to be there like fans and aquatubes :D

Born and bred in bristol aswell though im in portsmouth mainly atm for uni. Im currently designing my next system which is nearly done, can send you some screenshots of the concepts if you want, but work wont start on that until summer due to my dissertation.

With regards to the power button, why not putting the button behind the carbon strip and make it a touch sensitive power on button. It would be cool and wouldnt ruin the asthetics of the front as both of those screenshots indicate.

That's a good idea. Maybe have some very small led holes that are barely visible to mark the switch area. You could do it with a micro switch mounted so its touching the cf on the back, the slightest pressure would activate the switch.

Though it might get hit by accident from time to time :D

I dont know if I'll do a touch sensitive switch behind the CF. It would be easy enough but then I wont be using the Bulgin switch I bought and who knows if I'll be able to use it in my next project. I have a couple of other switches I could potentially use, I will try to get some pics posted ASAP and see what you guys think.

Well if your using lights inside the case why not have the bulgin switch on the back which either rests the cmos, or if youre having lights inside have it rigged up that it switches them off seperately from your case. That would be handy if you leave it on at night and you dont want your lights lighting up your room.

To be honest i wouldnt use it just because youve got it, especially if it takes away from the asthetics of your case, im sure you can sell it easily enough as a lot of people do buy them.

But does it negatively impact the aesthetics? I didn't think it did.... :worried:

Here's the 3 switches I have to choose from. I originally was going with the small one on the right because it seemed to fit really nicely with the overall color scheme. The Bulgin one was kind of an after thought and a way to tie the white LEDs in on the Aquatube.

The other switch is a Lian Li V-series power switch.

    Tell me what you think...

I would use the white lit bulgin that you were showing before and put it either on the bottom of cf as in the first test picture or on the top, Im not sure if you could get it to work nicely on the top, but if you could, I think it would look better, just because of the placement. But I think that button goes the best with the mod, the others seem like theyd blend in too much, unless thats a possible look you want. In the end, its all up to you I guess.

I'm gonna have to sleep on this one. There's a lot that can be done with the switches.

I was trying to avoid lots of lights (because I've done that 20x before) and I don't think that lights are a prerequisite for a good mod.

I may change my mind as I've got a bunch of white LEDs left over from my last project...

    Heres an idea.

Use the centre power button, and mod it. Take the carbon fibre strip off, mark out what the switch is going to go (id say where the original was) cut out the hole then put that but of carbon fibre on the power button. Make sure its rotated so it looks near enough seemless apart from the silver ring that surrounds the button itself.

I think it would work soo well, it would keep the asthetics of the case and wouldnt require any lights whilst still looking 'top notch'

I have to admit, I quite like the sound of having the switches and LED's up on top beside the res.

Is the res going to be lit with the power and HDD activity lights or just two constantly-on ones?

I was thinking of doing 2 constantly on white LEDs. Not too garish, just sleek and elegant. I wasnt going to do an activity LED or reset switch. It was going to be just a power switch. I wasnt even going to have a power LED, until I considered the Bulgin switch as it would kill 2 birds with one stone.

Last night I even toyed with the idea of mounting the power switch on the underside. I'm not sure if there's enough clearance to be able to press it, but the movement of the Lian Li V switch and the plain silver one would probably allow it. I'm not sure about the Bulgin- the button is a lot shorter and "tighter". This way I wouldn't break the CF strip at all. I am kind of diggin the USB on top, but still havent decided if I'm going that route.

I havent done much thinking about this one since I've been making progress on the Xbox mod.

I think the one on left side would be best.

But I must say I was suprised when this mod was on the "Project Logs Update 8". There would be better logs to review in this forum, than this. Basically pictures show some watercooling parts fitted and stripe of carbon attached temporarily. This project will be good surely, but at the time some other mod would earn place on review more than this.

    @msb

Let's see your project logs, then we'll talk after I'm humbled by your vast catalog of stellar, original, professional grade work...

Until then, STFU and get out of my log with your threadcrapping, noob.

May well of captured the imagination of the editor of the project logs thing as big things don't often come in small packages :).

I see your point but its not down to you as to what goes were but its good to see people viewing thre opinions is what a public forum is for.

& yes i too agree the left bulgin is good the right switch what is that from the middle would be good if you had no lights atall on the case like none in the res and just had those buttons but liek shiney proper eye catchingly shiny :D

It may not be my place to say things back to people like this, but I just feel the need to...OK, if you have an opinion about the mod, thats great, even if its bad, but those of us in support of the mod dont wanna hear it...and its not gonna change the log update that already came out...I dont see the point of posting this other than attention. And plus, who cares if it hasnt gotten "that far", how would YOU tell if its far enough to be in the log update? And plus, those are to alert people to mods that they should be lookin out for in the future, not ones that are done...this one has lots of potential, so they put it up there...why must you come and bash our party? What do you get out of it other than bad reputation?
    ...
    nothing...

And also add everything mj said to this rant.

EDIT: And dont think that adding a thumbs up makes everyone like you again...

Not sure ... but I would take any of those buttons... I would love to buy the one on the far right from you if you choose not to use it. Lemme know, maybe we can work out a deal or an equitable trade??
