I have to admit it. My previous project: Project Graffiti quite sucked. It was turned into ghetto. I am gonna make a new project with the same hardware as my previous project As where I already have a Fileserver, I'm gonna build a Filebitch. This is, unlike the Graffiti project gonna be: -a project that will cost a week to build -a project which is gonna be low priced -a structural project -a SFF pc. Pictures: The hardware 10 gb harddisk (gonna be replaced with 120gb in a week) 250 watts compaq PSU (look at the orange 5v lines) Compaq mATX mobo with 550mhz motherboard and Intel network card This is how the hardware is gonna be cramped together I will go by the shops on monday to get some stuff, and some sheets of metal.
not if the psu has a fan on the top (its upside down) but then again its a 250W compaq psu so i dont think it will have two. (oh thats the 1st thing i thought when i saw the pic) mod i think ps: you could have just quoted the last pic not the whole lot.
this shud b a good project. i mite do something similar in the near future. looking forward to seeing the updates. #kitt
Well, my graffiti pc has an almost simular setup, and the PSU has some holes in the bottom of it, so the CPU wil blow directly into the PSU, and the PSU will blow the air directly out of it. Again: It wasnt a problem in my Graffiti project, so it probarly wont be here. And if it IS a problem, I migth even add a casefan. My only consern is: does every HDD has screwholes on the bottom?
im sure you could just add a case fan into the psu if it gets too hot as for the hdd's both my maxtor's (80&120gig) do and also a very old seagate (150meg) hdd has holes on the bottom, so i would expect so.
Thats nice, because I dont want to end up with useless holes in my case . I think I'll buy one of these 'flower keepers' (plantenbak in dutch ): The only problem is that this one is 1.1 meters high, so I think I'll go look for a smaller one. Sketchup design:
Your're shure the your motherboard will work with an 120GB harddisk? ..you probably have to buy a PCI IDE controller so that you can use the 120GB harddisk.
Well, my other Compaq Deskpro EP can handle my WD80gb drive, so again I dont think its gonna be a problem.
Hmm my server got a asus tusl 2 motherboard with a 1GHZ celeron and the maximum capacity of hdds it works with is 80GB, harddrives with more space are recognized as drives with just 80GB, so i had to buy a PCI IDE controller for the 160GB drive i wanted to use. And i think it will be the same with you compaq mobo
Sound like the right price to me I've seen those IDE controllers fairly cheap over here in the uk, around £30 (~€45) I think, though I guess space might be an issue as well.
I think I'll just go 2*80, 1*80 or (the cheapest solution) my brothers 60gb . Space for PCI slots aint the problem. Rigth now, cutting the aluminium exactly correct is the biggest b*tch.
