Here is the beginnings of a big first mod. i had an old beige case, and didnt like it much, and was gonna pay like 50 for a new black one, when i realized that i could mod it quite easily. Also, how can i put pictures in an article!! I took quite a few, but cant get them to work....
dremel question hey i was having a hard time cutting thru the thicker steel of an older case and i was wondering if anyone had a better way to do it besides a dremel, and if i use a dremel, what kind of bit or cutting wheel. I was using a cutting wheel, but used about 8 of the and cut about 14" of actual line.
use a angle grinder with a metal cutting disk , or you could use the uber reinforced dremel cutoff disks, they wont brea as easyly
Photo bucket.just upload the pics than copy the url and click "image" in the reply or edit window and put the url there.then hit ok and when you hit "post reply" your image should be in the post.
I have an old case almost exactly the same, except the outside comes off in one piece. If this looks good I might attempt some modding of my own one. Good luck with this mod.
i like how it is coming along.. i am painting this old dell, black like yours.. but i dont know what else i am going to mod about it. mabey a window, but i am looking forward to how yours turns out.. later
paint if you havent started painting yet, make sure you sand out the scratches with a dremel, and prime the whole thing with primer, and it will look 10x better
pics and lights i was planning on putting a uv cold cathode behind the word leet and on the right side panel where the 2 120mm fans are (new pics tonight) as for the pictures, i like to do them at school, but they disabled www.nycz or something for porn. i have to install somehting that lets me get around it, but i cant think of it now.... lol
This is all the pictures so far, sorry that everything started out so sloppily in the hosting at the beginning of this log. This is the side panel, before any modding this is the design to be dremeled into the side panel here is the present pic of all the work so far here is the case, before any modding takes place here is the stuff from home depot but i also have a 18x24" piece of clear plexi the final paint job on the case the mirrorlike black finish on the top turned out really nice. I plan to add a 120 mm fan to the top also here is the fans and sleeving i will be using. I forgot to include the uv cold cathodes that i purchased, and the LED fans will go on the bottom of the front panel Here is the case with part of the motherboard mount tray cut out, but everything will still work Here is the right side panel with the new holes cut for the 120s Here is what the right side of the case ends up looking like
why didn't you cut the hole on the top before adding the paint, not you have to worry about ruining the paint job.
lol im not always that ahead of myself....i screwed up the paint where the 2 120s are on the side panel....had to wet sand it and stuff, finally got it right, but yeah, i think of these things after i begin, and it becomes an ongoing project that keeps gettin modded.
