I think this pretty much sums it up. Most guys rarely start out with a purpose bought chassis. It's more of an evolution of what you started with, at least up to a point. The 2nd and 3rd cars, they might be more of purchase with intent to rebuild. But the first one, it's the start of the slippery slope.

Nice project. A mate of mine had a similar project going with his Nissan Skyline GTR-33
550bhp with a T63 Turbo and screamer pipes.

On thing that gets to me is how he got bored with it, now that it's done and running. I suppose it's understandable, though. There's NOTHING you can do wrong in that car. 160 down an off ramp, and it still handles as if it's on rails (though it does leave 4 black marks all the way down).

I guess the bug is nasty that way.

Nice Evo, though. Of all the jap-power cars, Evos are my favourite.

Skylines offer infinite room for tweaking, but I think they just don't look nice..

Evos on the other hand look nice as stock and what I really love about them is the fact that you really can't have any idea of what's under the bonnet :D

A guy I used to work with got a Japanese import GT-R32 like that a few years ago as well, with just shy of 600bhp after a full engine rebuild by it's previous owner in Japan (obviously with the addition of a large turbo as well - probably a T63 but I don't know for sure) and it basically had a lifetime of work put into it by one really caring owner. It was the cleanest looking Skyline I have ever seen and easily the fastest car I've ever been in. My mate just asked a local importer to look out for a good GTR-32 and about 6 months later and having looked at a couple of models in "project car" condition, he came up with this one. It was basically a "buy it now, I want it" kind of situation, I think he mulled it over for a day or two but he was never going to turn it down. He did perform some minor drivetrain and engine work on it himself just after buying it and as far as I know, still takes it around car shows in Ireland but I haven't seen the car recently. I do know that it handles just as you say - as if it were driving on rails! :D

Would you expect any less from a car with ATTESA E-TS Pro AWD? :D

Been hard at it this week, I removed the dash and all unnecessary cabling, air con chiller unit in air/fan box and all the soundproofing :D

Dash went off to Lee@FCM Motorsport to be flocked and I've just picked it up looking stunning, cant wait to see it all back together, heres a few more pics of the dash before and after ripping all the crap out and the fan box with the air-con chiller removed, more to follow... :naughty:

    ...But will it run Crysis?

    What? :p

Seriously though, I envy you. The Evo is a gorgeous piece of car. I wish I could afford to run one (in terms of insurance, fuel consumption and the reality of having to park it at the curb side in Birmingham...).

    seriously nice engine job.
Tickled me when you said 500mile drive in, I do 500 miles in about 5 months. I think my 5 year old Honda is just about driven in now.

I'm a bit clearer after reading that, but what are forged parts? What're they made of, how are they different to stock?

    Last paragraph.

Forged are immensely stronger bits used particularly in boosted engines to increase strength.

That's an excellent job. As someone coming late to the world of car maintenance, all I can say is that we are not worthy :p

    Repped. I am learning things.

Also, just as an observation, this:

is pornographic. And I don't even know what it is.

That is the exhaust manifold (aka header), shiny turbo edition. It collects the hot exhaust into one tube, which you see in the lower right...a square thingy with bolts. That feeds into the turbo causing it to spin (aka the hot side). The super curves are there because you want the 4 tubes to collect into 2, then into one. You want the 1st and 3rd cylinder in the firing order to go into one, then the 2nd and 4th into one, and then those 2 again into one. This helps keep the exhaust flowing at a constant rate, rather then pulsing, which puts strain on the turbo and also lower it's efficiency.
