Cheers mate, its been a great project. Fair play if you fancy having a go at mechanical engineering, if you find in interesting then go for it. I've learnt everything myself, I work in IT for a living but I've always been a very logical person and good with my hands, I started off doing oil and brake changes, then uprating engine parts, then took the plunge and done a head gasket on a mates car and things have just progressed on, I get help from some car forums if I get stuck but these days there isn't anything I wont have a go at.

Most of my practical experience came from working on older Fords and Vauxhalls, about 5 years about I fitted a Calibra turbo engine (C20LET) and 6-speed box into my MK3 Astra GSi and tuned it up to just shy of 300bhp, it has full heated leather, a Car PC and was mag featured!
Talking of which a VERY common upgrade is to fit the Vauxhall C20XE engine nick named the "redtop" found in Calibras, Cavaliers and Astra GSi's into Corsa B's, you can buy everything off the shelf these days to fit one straight in, 155bhp instantly and they are very tunable engine as a lot of kit cars also utilise the C20XE, if you are mad you can also fit the Calibra turbo engine C20LET like I did into my Astra which is 208bhp standard and easy to get 260-280 from but might be a bit much for a Corsa. Have a look on http://www.vauxhallsportforum.com if you want to see some crazy Vauxhalls!

I already got a Carbon Fibre bonnet mate so no plans to change that, perspex windows maybe an option but I will be investing in 6-pot brakes before I go there :) I'm deliberately not wrapping the manifold or header as you guys say as I've heard that wrapping stainless steel thus making it get much hotter could fracture it.

Cheers bud, yes I've embarrassed a few Ferarri's and Ashton Martins in my time haha but they are sat in comfort and im sat in a loud, bumpy, aggressive Japanese bean can but it doesn't bother me as im enjoy myself going past and licking out a nice lil flame :)
Oh and no Nitrous for me, not a fan tbh, give me a big ass turbo and anti-lag any day :p

Haha cheers Matt, its coming along but still plenty of little things to do. Deffo need to get a GT-4 and get cracking on it, my mate had one for a few years and was a nice car and also the standard crank on them is good for 550-600 bhp ;)

Yeah. The engines won't last as long when the power is cranked up, especially when abused, but who cares, since they will last longer and are way cheaper to run or repair than exotics like Ferrari or Austin Martin, which is why Jap cars get my vote. Jap cars are much more common and cheaper than any euro manufacturer as well, so they are a no brainer around here.

Nice, the GT-4 is an old crush of mine, it was love at first sight when those things came out

Oh yeah, I forgot that bonnet was carbon already  I like how you've got the bonnet raised at near the windshield to help with the engine bay airflow, and yeah, although wrapping the exhaust is good for flow, the manifold and the turbo won't appreciate the extra heat :waah:

The X20XE "superboss" is a legend. The blocks are getting hard to find these days, and the demand is high. A more available and cheaper alternative is the X20XEV, a development of the XE. FWIW, I have a stuffed XEV on order for a bock up rebuild. Just waiting for the engine.

Yeah. Superboss is even a term for me. Absolutely legendary engines. There's only one car with one of those engines still runnning around here, AFAIK.

As for the Jap tuner vs Euro Supercar debate - It's not liek you're comparing apples and apples there... If you're after speed, get something like an Atom or a Nissan GTR - won't find more bang for buck anywhere else... but comparing them to real supercars is a bit like comparing a Fiat Punto to a Land Rover... :p

This caught my eye as I have an '03 Evo VIII US-spec.

Good job with the car. It looks great! Not sure how it is with the IV engines, but I can tell you the VIII can handle 500bhp with stock internals just fine. Personal experience on that one.

A few things done to her as well:
Rebuit Transmission with 1st and 5th gears from Evo IX and Mitsu LSD
    Aluminum Flywheel
    1000cc Injectors
    255lph Fuel pump
    HKS 272 Cams
    AEM EMS (tuned for E85)
    Forced Performance Green Turbo (73HTA)
    2-piece Slotted Rotors
    3" Turboback Exhaust
AMS FMIC with short-route piping and tial BOV
Running 33PSI@510bhp at the track and 25PSI@450bhp on the street

Nice spec mate and that's some serious boost, makes my current 26psi look lame lol.
I always find that Americans manage to tune the hell out of their Evo's and run uber high boost levels, 33psi on stock internals is mental, if you said that to a tuner over here he would laugh, then cry and then say your engine is living on borrowed time! lol but fair play to you if its working well :thumb:

My engine is from a Tommi Makinen edition and then forged, the original IV engines had a weaker bottom end so people don't tend to use them for big power, most tuners will go to about 400-420bhp at around 22-25psi with stock internals on the VIII's and IX's :)

    Haha cheers bud :D

Wow, I just noticed from your Dyno slip that the 425 flywheel BHP which you're producing only equates to 250 at the wheels. Is that correct? Seems quite low compared to your flywheel reading... The "one of worlds fastest" GT-Four that I mentioned earlier in the thread produces 600 @ the FW and 470 @ the wheels.

    700-1000 at the wheels.

He's right knuck. If you throw enough money and wrench time at it, a IV can produce over 1000 @ the wheels.

I opened that on my phone the first time, and not much of it loaded (their mobile theme sucks tbh). "What am I looking at here?" is what I was thinking. I just pulled out my laptop and had a gander at it.

Wow. No seriously, WOW. Those turbo assemblies are insane!

    [edit]

Asdfghjk... He is building forged & machined turbo's from Aluminium and Titanium. This guy is ridiculous :D :D :D

Nice! Are your Spa and Ring events in the same trip? Who's organising the TD?

I'd love to do Spa, such a beautiful track and magical place.

Never heard of the Hydra system. Let me know how you like it. Good luck with it!

Currently using the AEM EMS which is working out pretty nicely.

Cheers, yeah Day 1 is driving from Bristol straight to Nurburgring via Channel Tunnel, Day 2 & 3 will be spent there, few laps and chilling, checking out the German beers etc then on Day 4 we are at SPA which is an official Track Day organised my the MLR (Mitsubishi Lancer Register) then the drive back on Day 5, so 5 days of driving, around 1500-1600 miles round trip inc track time :eeek: :eeek:

Cheers, yeah Hydra isn't a massive name same as Vipec, Link, Gems etc but they use them a lot in the USA, very good ECU for the money and it has Anti-Lag and Launch Control plus it has its own knock control so can pull back timing and boost etc which is a reason I went for it :)

Will report back once mapped and running, at the moment the car runs like a bag of nails on idle with the Kelford 272 cams so im hoping its more tweak-able on the Hydra as I will be ditching the MAF and going MAP... :D
