Apr.9th - Strip it and paint it!!! ;)

Pulling that mouse apart was a PITA!!!!

The top over the IC is the blue LED that lights through the vents and the fan. That will be what I replace with a white or orange one.

6 screws holding the internals together.... cripes...

    Finally... broken down:

These parts will be OSHA orange:

and these are with the first layer of smoke paint:

I plan on 2-3 more layers of paint on these parts.

    Apr.9th - Later that day

after 2 more coats of "Smoke" and the 2-3 coats of clear:

    the top pieces:

Pulled the blue LED out of this beastie, and replaced it with a white 5000mcd light. I then sprayed it with a glass frosting so that the light would disperse and not just spotlight. These pics were prior to me spraying the frost.

    Absolutely!!!

I have to build up a temp machine though, as my daughter has been showing her interest in computers all of the sudden this last week.

She can't stop playing playhouse Disney! So, I have to build her a rig that will at least let her play while I am down @ TXGF!

    WHEEEEEE!!!!
    :D

    Looking forward to it bro!!!

    Apr.14th-getting close!

    Test fit...

couple of take aways on the pics....

Mice have pretty tight clearance tollerances on the buttons, and a thicker paint causes these to stick due to the gaps being tighter.

    *SO*

I am forced to file down the gaps to allow for more space, then repaint the buttons and such to fit properly together... but this should let you know where this baby is going...

WOW! Thats probably the most well thought out design I've seen on this forum. A real MUSCLE PC! Well done man. You must be chuffed!

    Looking good. Cool stripes.

Just a note. You obviously are putting great effort into the detail, but the paint in the mouse fan holes doesn't penetrate all the way to the bottom in this picture. Just thought you might like to know.

    Thanks guys!
Constructacon, that issue is resolved in the next update. This was just to test fit the moving parts.

I noticed that too, also the edges of the mouse buttons and such. Thanks for the eyes! Much appreciated!

And qar - if chuffed is another word for extatic, happy or some measure of both, then "YEAH!!!!"

    ;)

Here is a little trick I pulled tonight. The Rubber surround on the wheel was a clear rubber, and I wanted the opaqueness of a "tire"... so I took the rubber piece off of the plastic center. I then boiled some water in a glass dish, then poured in 1/2 a package of RIT black dye. Mixed it up good, then dropped the rubber piece into the dye. Let it sit there for about 30 minutes, essentially letting the water cool with the rubber in it. I let the boiling water cool for about 2 minutes prior to adding in the rubber piece for fear that I was going to melt it and mis-shape it.

But the piece came out PERFECT! Opaque black, and still fits the original dimensions!

I need to buy some mouse skates for the oval patches that I took off the bottom, but otherwise it is done!

May 3rd - doctor... the patient is on the table...

I took my Saitek keyboard down to Austin to a meeting of the Austin Modders and got some much needed assistance from PoMan. He does circuit board rework like it is nobody's business! He replaced the standard blue surface mount LED's with my white LED's to bring the keyboard in line with the rest of the BOSS project. Thanks bro!

Updates on the keyboard as of last night:

    Patient is on the table:

Intestines removed. These are the light bars on the Saitek that have the surface mount LED's on them. This is the part that PoMan rocked like a concert! ;)

Putting the boards back in place (notice around the edge
    [IMG]

    At home on my workbench:

14 TINY little screws holding the keyboard onto the front plastics:

*BAM!* magically they are apart and I have lightly sanded the plastic to give the primer something to grab onto:

    "hellp me... pleeeeease!" ;)

White primer, to help brighten the orange when applied:

    First coat of orange:

"BAAAANNZAIIIIIIII!!!!!" Frikken bug... Why the **** can't they get the hint that wet paint is NOT for resting on??!?!?! Look right next to the flash in the middle, and up to the right a bit... see that little booger with wings... lil punk....

*lightly* sanded the bug out and then reshot another orange on the top to even out the paint.

Looking good man :) I love the mouse, you did a gj on that.

Hehe bugs are annoying aren't they? Especially when you're doing something important they always seem to "bug" you ;)

Keep up the good work :thumb:

    Very nice!

This has got to be one of the best I've seen, so much more original than most. I thought the winner was nice, but I don't really go for most of those technological tour-de-force types. Just because you can cram every possible led, screen, and light into a case doesn't mean you should. I mean it looks nice and is visually impressive, and I can appreciate the effort; but to me it lacks soul.

Maybe it's my love of performance and muscle cars (past/present/future), but this is my favorite type of case mod. You inspire me to try my hand at it!

    The wheels are turning... :eyebrow:

This PC looks great Tech and it is always a pleasure to see in person. This weekend was TXGF LAN in Austin and I grabbed a quick pic of the case.

Thats nothing, when I'm painting out in my yard I get all these baby grasshoppers jumping on my stuff, blow them off but they jump back on. Luckily the primer I was using dried fast enough that they didn't get stuck or leave footprints. Hopefully they won't be out when I'm doing the colour coats.

The plate served as the base of the foam. I sprayed the foam over (completely covering) the metal plate.
