Wow that is one cool case :D I love the fact that (you seem to have spent) as much time making it looked old and battered as you did in making it.

    Very well done.

You have very good weathering case talents. Looks like it really has been laying in the junk pile for many years. :D

    part 7 some interior mods

For those of you who liked the paint job – this is where I may disappoint you. The core theme in this build is to use as much recycled parts as possible, so the components are a bit old. Of course it does not mean that I wont upgrade later on…..

So lets mod the inside. Here is a pic of the case stripped down (just before painting).

Here is the original HD mount. I am going to convert it to hold the radiator and fan for the proc.

These pics show the conversion process.

Now I am going to mount it into the case.

Here it is later in the mod – all connected up.

Since I used the HD mount and both drive bays are filled I needed to make amount to hold the drive. So I reused a mount from my spares bin and sort of turned into a anti shock mount.

Then I started to make a mount to hold the spinner for the primary cooling system. It started out looking one way – then ended up looking a bit different – but it worked out pretty well.

I also made some short ide cables but chopping standard ones down. I actually did not think they would work for some technical reason – but they did not give me any issues.

    Then I dressed them up.

And with them in place. Its pretty tight fit.

I made this cable to power the wireless router internally.

I went and mounted a second cooling system for the video card. I did not have a water block for the card – so I just JB Welded an old block to the heat sink – I know I know – totally cheese….. but I figured that at some point I may upgrade the card and the block. It worked about as expected… crappy. But then the cooling system that I had laying around (actually it once cooled my Perforated mod) was not much to look at any way.

Since I did not expect stellar performance I simply mounted the radiator onto the back of the power unit. The idea being that the fans from the power unit would do to cool it.

At least there are not many small form factor cases that can boast two separate water cooling systems – though I did not say ‘good’ water cooling systems. The proc cooler actually worked very well for non oc’d temps.

Here is where I drilled through the case to attach the hoses to the radiator.

Here is how I fill and bleed it – how bout that rust.... hehe - still missing some claps at this time – I had to spend some money for those. and for the wireless nic that you can see holding the water hoses down (expensive clamp).

I still have some pics to post – the wireless router mod and the main radiator and dvd player painting… till then

    Part 8 keyboard painting

I took some time to mod a key board to match the case – well sort of – I wanted to age the key board but I did not really want it to look like a matched set. I actually painted this thing like 3 times – I am still not really satisfied with the colors but I will live with what I have. So anyway, I started with this Wolf King key board.

And I took it apart – funny how many screws they use to hold this thing together.

I taped up the keys but I later weathered them as well – I could not find my camera when I did this so no pics – sorry…

I scraped up the buttons to look used.

I sanded down the board a little since I was still out of primer… actually I would have sanded it down anyway.

    Fast forward to some painting.

    I weathered the bezels.

I weathered the board and the bezels with some stain.

Here are all the cans of stuff that I used through out this mod…. Thought some of you would like know what I used.

    Weathering continues.

    Still too shinny.

Assembled and testing – but I am still not happy with it.

Here are some close-ups of the board.

Like I said – when I took these pics – I knew that I was going to redo the paint a bit. Unfortunately, I am using the key board at my warehouse so it will be a few days before I can show you what it ended up looking like.

Thanks all for the nice comments about my previous posts.

Try finding an old keyboard that has the the popular keys worn down and start from there? IIRC, there are only a few companies that actually make the keys. Alternatively a carefully applied dremel wire brush may help give the look you are looking for. A cigarette burn in the plastic would also look cool too.

Ouch. You have some nasty kinks in the tubing. Props to you for using fuel line clamps.:D I'm shocked no one in the WC industry have made nickel plate versions for Tygon.
