Well a lot of people asked what happened to Project Sapphire (for the newer people: http://www.bit-tech.net/article/38/ http://www.bit-tech.net/article/39/ http://www.bit-tech.net/article/42/ ) Well, it never really took off the ground, but became my little modding baby for when I wanted to test a new technique or light etc. Here's the current work I've done on it: I wanted to make an LCD mount in the case, but got stuck with where to put it. I thought the easiest was a 2-bay plate with it housed, so I got to work. Taking the front off the case, I measured up how much plexi I needed. Then, using the ninja art of silent modding, used a knife and scored along either side where I needed to cut. A bend with the pliers (covering it with a cloth) gave me a neat break. A spare dead LCD helped mark out where the hole should be. I tried frosting it, as I love frosting, but it didn't work for what I wanted to so, so I removed it. This is how it looked anyway. I printed out a hideously coloured surround, as people have been doing recently Then, with the power of insanity, glued it all together. And DUCK TAPED it in, yes, I know.. no need to congratulate me. Screws? Adhesive? Pah, for schoolgirls. Here's a better look at the frosted window I did, this has the luminous etch installed, with the inside left transparent (and Red and UV cathodes installed). Finally, the window on the other side was made larger. (Silent ninja modder strikes again, using a metal nibbler to cut the hole. Took about 6 mins) and the original window from my first case (with custom etch) was installed there. See, I do things sometimes!
Not sure, I've only ever seen it like this.. I guess generally people prefer it as thin as possible. I guess you could do multiple coats?
i have about 3 spare dead lcd's if u want one? 4x20 alphanumeric ones.... my supplier sent me them dead....
