I was ordering some switches and stuff from a webshop, Elfa, and thought I might aswell pick up some parts for an IR receiver when I was at it. The parts were only $6 or so total. So, I received the parts in the mail today, and started soldering almost right away. I now have a fully working serial port IR receiver, with a red indicator LED which suits my red and black theme well. I haven't made a casing for it yet, but to stop it from shorting out anything, I taped it to a piece of perspex. I might mount the whole thing inside my case when I get the time. This receiver (and Winlirc/Girder as software) enables me to do almost everything with the remote. For instance, I can control the mouse with it. And here's the remote control. It's from an LG VCR. I am going to have a special button just to launch bit-tech The circuit I used was made by Rauter. He has a webpage, rautermods, but it's down at the moment. I'll post a link to the article when his site is up again. Thanks to Smilodon, who helped me when I thought I had screwed it up (but it was just a bad contact in a solder track), and for helping me setting up winlirc and Girder
What would be cool is if the LED only came on when the CD-ROM was ejected then, once closed, it faded away to off.
I have thought of encorporating that function, ouija. It wouldn't be that hard either, as there are switches inside the CD drives which can be used. The main reason for why I haven't done it, is that it looks so cool at night with the triangular beam of light shining down over the bezel and creating a cool sort of UFO glowy ring around the computer.
i have been busting my b*lls to find a set of uv pens - fineline ones - could I ask where u got them from (uk based?) thx in adv
Jordanis3r - this will have to be checked with Bard but i think he's using a method i've seen from another modding site (where im not sure, it was 3am when i saw this) and its uses those day-glo biro's you pick up at any stationers store, even WH smiths. Which type is better i dont know but i did it on an old TNT2 for a test and it worked quite well although i did find the ink doesnt dry just go in there and look for the brightest most neon colour you can find and it should work fine
heh would you beleive it. RAMeLaiR mentioned the article i was refering to and gave this link to it on another thread. Have fun
Jordanis3r, I used regular thin hightlighter pens. They are called "Schneider Gel Tops", but any of those gel pens would work. They sell them virtually everywhere (office supply etc.)
LMAO my last name is schneider...i hope kids dont find out im named after a pen too!!! first the milk, then the truck company now a gel pen company!!! arrrr
Don't you think? Makes it look like I'm working In that case, I'll take one yellow and possibly a blue...
