darn now THIS i call design keep up the outstanding work duud i really like what i see you have a great eye for detail
I wait to see the end, because it is quite clean and all, it is well made in belgium lol , and it's verry original, and that the force of the tunning is with you
wow, that's truly a great job! Your attention to detail is amazing...keep it up! Personally i liked Hypercube 1 better, but those rooms weren't as cool
After reading your logs I went and watched the film 'Hypercube' on Sky scfi channel last night All I can say is what been said by many others 'Keep up the good work' a fitting tribute to the film
Dude this mod project rocks hard! I loved both Cube and Cube2:Hypercube (infact you've made me want to go buy them on DVD). This case VERY MUCH resembles the look of both movies. I can't wait to see it finished. So far its amazing how good it looks. Looks like we have another top modder. This thing sits up in the ranks of piloux and the others' works.
d@mn i cannot get enough of that sexy "Frosted" plexi i love that, honestly i think the best part of the poject, and and the whole things looks so nice, keep it up
Project HYPERCUBE² DAY 15 09/08/2004 DAY 15 The next update after the weekend. I didnt do that much, the weather was so nice so we went to the beach First thing I did was making the powerbutton. I found this anti vandal button in a local electronic store. I especially liked it because it has this nice rounded button. Most of the buttons I saw were with these flat surfaces. Here you see it already mounted in the Inox(RVS) panel. This is gonna be the bottom layer. backside. Think I'm gonna have to polish this side up. Next is the upper layer. I'm using this custom lasercut fanguard for it. I dremeled (is that a verb??) the center piece out an sanded it down till it was flat. Two layers mounted in the case. Still needs cleaning up. Next thing on the list (needed something small to do) is the rheobus. This is the standard Rheobus from Sunbeam "easy fan controller" I have to get the potmeters of the printplate. I need my solder iron for this job. The potmeters removed and new cables attached and tested. Everything still works Its actually nice to solder things when you have been cutting and polishing plexi for 2 weeks. So more soldering for me Soldering the 3.5mm jack plugs for the 4 outtake fans on the back. (note: spot the nice colours of the Belgian flag All cables soldered and heatshrink in place Heatshrunk and covered up with a big heatshrinking thingie... Waited 2 weeks for some screws. (M2 rvs 16) I got them today, now I can finally begin to attach the core of the cube. Here you see a test setup for the drilling. But it didnt satisfy me. Should be much more stable. That looks much better Drilling the holes with a 1.5mm metal bit. Didnt find a 2mm tab, so I'm hoping I can just screw them in. Oh yeah I dodnt have pictures of the screws, but I can tell you it was no problem screwing them in. I lost one drilbit in the plexi, it just snapped of. I couldnt get it out. Luckily its not visible, so it will stay in. This is what's gonna be on the inside. The stripped PSU and on top the rheobus. Next job will be the sleeving and cutting of the cables of the PSU. These are the holes for the PSU cables . the little holes in the middle are again for the M2 screws, because there is a second plexi plate under it. (I did this so the cablesleeving would stay better in place.) http://users.telenet.be/hypercube/Hyper2004_08_09/DSC_2308.jpg When finished the sleeving will be a bit like this. from left till right: sleeving for power button, left HD, powercable PSU, right HD, DVDROM. (mind that the core is upside down.) Thats all for now. Like I told , next thing I will do is the sleeving of the core. greetz, Joungne
You don't fail to impress with this one. Too bad about that drill bit lol. I like that idea with the rheobus a lot, and the way you did the power switch. You're right, the rounded vandal switch looks a lot more intresting than the flat ones and certainly fits in better.
urm, id never want to 'down' what your doing.. i think its amazing... but.. if them psu components aint emi shielded.. wont they interfere with that hdd?? still, amazing, and original work going on.. lovin it
can you explain what you mean by this? Never heard of that, but I think I need to know what it is. Anybody also know the answer on this one?? tnx
Great modding dude really impressive! I don't like the movie (cube is much better ) but your hypercube rules
Hmm I wouldn't think the psu would interfere with the hard drive, plenty of people run their psus with acrylic covers which offer no emi shielding and they have no problems.
Well, I hope you are right. I looked it up a little, and I can stick some Emi Shielding tape on the inside. But I have to find were to get it.
it was just a passing thought.. probs not all that important.. please, dont spoil you mod by putting tape everywhere on account of what i said.. it just got me thinking.. this psu is converting main electricity to low v rails.. and thats done with some kind of transformer right??.. and dont transformers use electro magnetic induction? also, after looking at a project, i noticed some people had bough the 'full metal jacket' for their eheim pump.. now if a water pump can interfere with hdd's.. id think a psu is even more 'interfereing' and this aint no normal stripped down/windowed psu.. the psu pcb looks to be backing onto where the hdd is fixed to... which is rear to say the least.. best research it first before doing ANYTHING to your mod if i have this wrong, please correct me straight away
amazing attension to details my friend! great job I can see you have used some of the great ideas of Gnome's Orac3
DAMN! This is clearly a 5 star project !!!!! Nice attention to detail. Have you had those little fans up and running for any time yet? If so how noisy are they? Its nice to have a willing helper in the girlfriend , mine is getting very good at helping me out
yes, they are up and running in test mode (because the psu is still in modding progress) actually the noise is very low. Ok you can hear them, but its no biggy. And they will be on the rheobus, so it wont be an issue. But there is a little problem with those fans, and thats the reason i didnt post some pictures of them yet. I didnt figure it out yet. The fans come with blue leds into the print plate of the fan. 3 for every fan. And as you may know. I dont want blue light in the case. I fugured when I bought them I'll just replace them, but its impossible to replace because they are in the middle of the fan on the plate. So now i'm trying to find a way to disable them, but I'm out of ideas ....
