Project Ichi Hi all. I have been moddin cases for some time now and im still not satisfied. This is my new project. I have tried some things before i came up with the idea of posting this thread. This thread will encourage me working harder on this project and will give me the opportunity to think over things. First some pics of a former project "Avalon" wooden case. Ok. Some info bout this project... Why Ichi? Ichi means first/one in Japanese. I like japan and this pc will be the first/main pc. My idea is to make a small, passive watercooled, full-atx compatible case. The colors will be metallic red and normal matt black. The overall theme will be dark. I will mod the Inwin-D500 micro atx case to accept my atx mobo. A single 120mm fan will rotate at low speed for outake and powersupply (wich is already stripped). The watercooling will be used for the cpu only, so i can make it passive. The radiator will be placed outside the case on the backside. The vid card will have zalman passive cooling. I will use the inwin-micro atx (desktop) case, paint, plexiglass, bondo etc. Ok some easy specs of the project.. Ingredients: Abit Nf7 Nforce 2 mobo atx 1800+ (already running at 2000mhz, watercooling not yet installed) 2 x 256 Infineon 333mhz running at cl2 6.2.2.2.2 and same speeds at cpu fsb) Club 3d Geforce fx5900xt (will have zalman passive cooling) Seagate 40 gig ide HD Cd Burner Stripped Antec 400watt smartpower power supply Case materials: Inwin D-500 micro atx case desktop 5mm plexiglas Black paint, metallic dark red paint Reostats Knob for fan control (yes the 1 x 120mm fan in the case) mini jack output plus volume control knob small blue lcd bondo black mesh for power supply asetec waterchill watercooling zalman passive vid card cooling some cold cathode, maybe red/maybe ill add uv 120mm fan I have already replaced the back with plexi for atx. But i dont like it, i came up with a better idea. Ok the rest will be pics only. Pics say more dont they The micro-atx case. The watercooling. Current state of my pc. It works The bondo i use. Yes its dutch The plexi i have. I have already cutted out the window on top. Ill sand it nice and smooth later. Did first layer of bondo on the front. Will have to grind and bondo it much more till it gets a nice and smooth surface. Hope yall like it. Me too of course. Updates will come in start post. Update [27-01-05] My first 'incomplete' attempt to mod the back of the case. I will remove it and try some other idea's. Maybe someone has suggestions? I dont need all the slots of the mobo, and the radiator on the back will take some of them... Project Ichi Update*2 [27-01-05] some part arrived. a volume meter and a potmeter/regulator for the fan. they are bigger than i espected... this is one of my front design idea's. I made it quickly in paint because i suck . Hope this doesnt give the wrong idea about my design. The red is supposed to be rough. wash your mouth out with soap young man i will no more updates in start post
Interesting... The case you showed there, imo, is ugly with the blue front. But it has a nice finish. Curious to see if your new one is going to look gOoOoOoOd...
ah you are not the first one that doesnt like the blue / orange wood combination. i think this new case will look good. ill order some red uv tubing for the watercooling, the rest will be black with some red accents. maybe ill make the red structure a little bit industrial. ill experiment.
I see... If you are doing industrial mod, add some personal touches to it, cause many mods are industrial alike nowdays.
Well maybe industrial is the wrong word to describe my thoughts on this project. My idea is to make 2 layers of paint, only on some of the parts, like the cd bracket. First layer wil be nice matt black, next layer will be shiny dark red. Ill have to make the second layer a little bit rough, maybe with some text or cutout pics in it. The rest will be matt black. Maybe ill paint the plexi too to match the rest of the looks. But there are first a lot of others things i have to do. Rebuilding de micro atx chassis, so i can easily place a the parts. Not an easy job i must say. Then again, pics say more
nice idea. is this gonne be a htpc or something? to isuo where u from in finland? anyway keep on modding
main game pc i just like small cases. dunno if ill place it vertical (cant see bottom anyway/facing the wall) or horizontal. ill post pic soon with item to compare it with for size. its small, as tall as my 17"tft. sorry im dutch, hope you still like my project
Hey more finnish peolpe!! Yeey... [finlandaise] Jos haluutte lisätä mut teidän messengeriin, ni voidaan jutella suomeks modauksesta mesessä![/finlandaise] It is looking just great!! The first case wasnt so cool with the blue front... But otherwise
Can you do a new post when you update and put pics to it, easier to follow this project then <3 What fan you have at cpu?
nice swear word in the pic now that ive pointed it out i give it to the end of the day until its removed lol looks cool (not the swear word, the case )
you guys meant "****ed up quality"? ill keep the pic removed then, quality is bad... ill work today more on the front till its smooth. then make the holes for the knobs etc. i find it very diffecult dremeling a small square for the usb port. its impossible. i think ill drill a nice hole for the usb ports. maybe suggestions? u mean the fan i use atm? thats just the stock fan of the falconrock cpu cooler. wich wont be used in the project. ill use one stripped 120 mm titan alu fan
Good work. It would be a japanese themed case? For the USB ports you can drill 2 holes (for each port) and file/sand them, untill you get a square with round corners.
Update [29-01-05] not anymore in startpost i did some work and some thinking today i have decided the case will be desktop form. (important to know for placing lcd ) desktop because the case is originally desktop, so the bottom can stay ugly.. (takes away a lot of work as for design the intake fan will be placed in the window. not in the case. but some pics say more.. the power supply with the holding plexi power supply inside case. will have less and shorter cables final cut window. doesnt have to be perfect because painted plexi will come on top of it. placed some plexi on top to give the idea that is where the intake fan will come you are talking mini/mini/mini that sounds impossible. i would need a mini file for that. or maybe i just dont understand it maybe japanese theme. need to do some research etc. dark red and black are japanese theme colors to me. updated this post like 10 times. im not really awake
Well a USB port has around 15mmx7mm aprox. You can drill 2 holes of 6mm then apply some dremel skills to remove the plastic excess or use a file (not really a mini file needed, if you works with plastic a metal nail file could works hehe). You can find cheap square or flat files in common hardware shops and they're (generally) sharped in the tip to fit in small holes.
that would be very nice, arigato. then you be a part of my mod hehe some pics for you and the rest of the world the front the window. you could design something for round the etches or corners.
