    iLiner: part 2

ok, so i have this thing pretty well hammered down..... i hope.... i've yet to see if the iPod will still operate..... i don't see why it wouldn't, but my luck runs bad.... so i might just have an expensive paper weight.....

thought it's hard to see, this is the first stage of the protective liner application.... only the back (metal) side has been coated so far, one thin coat applied with $.30 foam paint brushes..... they work well enough, but give a rough texture.... but that's what i'm going for, i don't wanna drop it cause it's slick....

the liner material is really common in just about any automotive parts store.... especially down here in the southeastern USA.... a quart of it cost me about $17.00.... $16.95 to be exact....

the protective window cover i made of the safety goggle lens is being held on simply by the liner.... i'll just paint over the edges and wait for it to dry.... after that happens, it should be very very secure....
i've used this stuff before, so i know how strong it is..... it works wonders when used to coat subwoofer and speaker boxes used in car audio.....

ok, i'm going now to apply the first coat on the front side.... wish me luck...

Now we've split the Project Logs area into seperate Log and Log Discussion forums, you need to start a thread in the PL Discussion forum with links back & forth (if you want feedback). ;)

Only you (and us Moderators) can post in this thread, keeping the actual Log a continuous article.

    Photos OK now. :thumb:

    Project iLiner: november 11th, 2005

first off, this is my first mod..... on anything.... the closest i ever came to modding anything before this installing a new optical mouse..... so yea, it's gonna be nasty, but at least i'm doin it.... yay for the new modders!...

so, my iPod Photo was... well, rather boring.....

so how to spice it up, and also help relieve some of those pesky side effects of owning an iPod..... ya know, like skratched up EVERYTHING!....

i started looking for ideas.... and one hit me like a 500 pound sumo racing for the last cupcake..... paint on bedliner material...... super hard, super strong, super hard, chip and skratch proof, water proof, super HARD...... so it was perfect..... but how to make it work on something that was never made to be treated in such a way......

well, this is how i made it work......

first, i had fun with my supplies....

Blue masking tape (wrapped my hand)
    Xacto knife
Coarse (60 grit) sanding block (i have no knuckles left to me)
    foam paint brushes
    a block-o-wood
    a few shots of vodka
safety glasses (the cheap kind, like shown in the pictures)
    and lastly, paint on bedliner....

so i started out by untaping my hand

after that was done, i donned my goggles.... SAFETY FIRST!!!!

contrary to popular belief, the safety glasses will be used instead of sitting on my face.... i popped out the lens and then used some shears to cut a rectangle slightly larger than the size of the iPod window.... about 1/2 inch larger, wide and tall....

here's the window placed on the ipod with masking tape, also the click wheel and ports have been masked over....

after that's done, and more masking tape was applied to my mouth, i scuffed up the entire surface with the sanding block... not too much was needed, just get the surface skractched up good and proper....

so now we're at where i'm at on Project iLiner.... i'm going now to start applying the first coat of liner material.... see you soon, hopefully with an operational Modded iPod....
