Now It's time to work on the power supply for the optical drives :

I've used some floppy cable from old psu and I've crimped to a male molex connector :

I've used 3 connector, two for the drives, and one for the IDE to SATA card, I hope to put even this card inside the OptiBox.

    Here is the final result!

And now, let's go to the PITA part of this box, the real free space that I have...
This is the SATA converter :

This is the way I want to use it :

I've also tested the slim dvd to ide adaptor thay I buy from Hong Konk, it cost me less than the 1/5 than the one that I buy here in italy :-(I suppose that the big trouble will be the SATA cable, and even the floppy cable for the SATA card..
I have even a little trouble : the converter is too hight! But now I must test if it work!

YEAH!!! It work, but now I need to work on a little bit...

The two adapter that I have :

On the top the Hong Kong one, as you can see the IDE pinout is not the same, they are mirrored. The center pin is in the top row in one adapter, in the other is in the bottom row...
I hope to have some lucky putting the SATA card on the bottom dvd drive...

It fit perfect! And I have even the space to power up the upper drive!
I'm happy, I've 0.01 millimeters of free space between the SATA card and the power plug :)
I have to say a big tnx to _FAX_ for giving me the SATA 90° cable, without this cable I was unable to mount all!

Thank God for the angled SATA cable!!!
Know what it feels like when you don't have the right hardware, it's a bit frustrating! :)

    Good job so far!

    Just a bit frustrating?
    LOL
It's SUPER frustrating, keep in mind that near no shop here in Italy have the SATA 90° degrees...
Dear The Beat, I hope to finish the mod in september, in octobwer I must show it to SMAU, a big show like CEBIT here in italy...
My major time consuming task right now is to translate the worklog...
    Regards to all,
    RigoR

Let's go back to take a look at the hard disk heat spreader... A little use of an angle grinder and here is the first prototype :

Here is the final result , now I have to use the belt sander to smooth the edges :

Taking apart the original thermo pad :

    A scraper, a simple scraper...
In future I must polish with 1200 grit sandpaper but... Now I have some free time!

I've polished one heat spreader by hand in about 1 hour of work...
Then I realized that I can use the vertical drill with some items attached...
The final result and comparision is here :

To the left side, drill polish, to the right, hand polish...
Ok, drilled heat spreader is ugly, but I've saved 50 minutes, now in 10 minutes using 1200 grit sandpaper and a little bit of polish I obtain the same result....
If you want to see the polish video using a vertical drill, here are the links :

    Part 1
    Part 2
    Part 3
    Part 4

    Let's go on....

Here is how I've choosen to be sure and TOTALLY waterproof, teflon and silicone :

[IMG]how to use silicone and teflon

then to be REALLY sure, I've put some sealing silicone externally :

    [IMG]External sealing

Now I'm sure that it's totally leak proof!

Here you can see my supervisor that analyze the drive structure searching for bad cluster :)

He told me that the drives are ok, so I can start working...

Here is what I'll use : Thermattach T411, heat spreader , x-acto knife and time...
Let's start removing the hdd sticker :

Some minor scratches on the surface, no problem, I'll cover with the heat spreader!

I've cutted 6 pieces of Thermattach T411 they measure 46x62 millimeters , family pic :

Take a look at the T411, so strange!

Now the final part, the placement, as you can see I've used a piece f plexy like a guide for the side :

It seem it's not so bad...
