So this is my second case mod now, the first I will be doing a project log about. I would love any suggestions/comments along the way. I will mostly be posting bigger updates on weekends as that's when I will be working on this thing the most. Without further adieu lets start this thing

    To do list:
    • Disassemble console - done
    • Disassemble controller - done
    • Disassemble hard drive
    • Cut side window
    • Cut window in hard drive
    • Fill memory card slots in faceplate
    • Sand everything
    • Prime everything
    • Paint console and hard drive
    • Paint controller
    • Glue in plexiglass
    • Reassemble
    • Happy Times

So this is a little sketch I made up as for the design of the case. I'm still not 100% sure about the color in the middle (right now purple) so if you have any suggestions plz post. Controller will be painted all black (murdered out)
    [IMG][IMG]

How the console looks at the moment, gotta love that custom Modern Warfare faceplate
    [IMG]

    That's right, powered by Asus......wutsup
    [IMG]

    Controller at the moment
    [IMG]

Mmmmmm very delicious dirt right there
    [IMG]

Alright time to disassemble the controller

Gotta take out those seven torx screws in the back
    [IMG]

Didn't have a security bit torx screwdriver bit I managed to get a flathead to fit in and it worked :D
    [IMG]

    Screws out
    [IMG]

Taking off the back of the shell
    [IMG]

Some more dirt/dust that looks very tasty
    [IMG]

Got the bottom plate out, just pulls out
    [IMG]

Finally, managed to fiddle the circuit board out, not as easy as it seams
    [IMG]

Took out those rubber things holding in the buttons and the buttons just pop outs
    [IMG]

Now I gotta take out the d pad
    [IMG]

Gotta unscrew these two screws to get it out
    [IMG]

    Popped it out
    [IMG]

Now I took out the RB LB buttons
    [IMG]

And pried out the sync button
    [IMG]

    Empty shell
    [IMG]

Now to take out the triggers
    [IMG]

Careful so the spring doesn't pop out
    [IMG]

Wasn't so lucky with the second one
    [IMG]

It kinda flew out across my room, luckily I found it lying by my radiator
    [IMG]

    All the parts laid out
    [IMG]

So I don't forget what to do with all that crap
    [IMG]

    Now on to the console
    [IMG]

    Faceplate off, just pull it
    [IMG]

Had to take these feet things out to reach the clips.....

To take out the top and bottom plates
    [IMG]

Time to press these clips in, kinda a pain
    [IMG]

This magical screwdriver was the perfect size and got the job done pretty well
    [IMG]

    Console splitting in two
    [IMG]

Now gotta unclip the clips in the front
    [IMG]

    Bottom's off
    [IMG]

    Man that things dusty
    [IMG]

    Taking off the eject button
    [IMG]

Now these torx screws gotta come out
    [IMG]

    EZ mode
    [IMG]

    Top coming off
    [IMG]

Taking off the dvd drive cover thing
    [IMG]

    Dusty heatsink
    [IMG]

Now to take off that metal plate on one of the insides of the case so I can cut the window
    [IMG]

    That's where you belong
    [IMG]

Fan duct (I think that's what it's called) coming out
    [IMG]

    All the parts laid out
    [IMG]

Temporary console so I can still play, add me GT: Prelich
    [IMG]

So that's all for dis assembly right now. I'm going to start marking and cutting the window hole tomorrow and I will also take apart the hard drive to get ready to cut. Stay tuned for another update coming soon.

Alright so on to part two

I marked up the window area on the side of the case. As I do not have a dremel and do not want to buy one just for this one mod, I will be using a drill and jigsaw and a lot of sanding
    [IMG]

Marked where to drill the holes so the corners are round
    [IMG]

Test holes, got a good technique now as you can see the top hole is the cleanest
    [IMG]

Going to use 5 drill bits each consecutively largest so the plastic does not crack and peal off
    [IMG]

    First hole drilled
    [IMG]

    All done
    [IMG]

Now to take apart the hard drive to drill the holes for it's window
    [IMG]

    Tops off
    [IMG]

    Took off the side so.....

I can file these down to make space
    [IMG]

Filed down those stick out thingies
    [IMG]

All the hard drive parts laid out
    [IMG]

Took off the foe metal sticker
    [IMG]

    Marked up the window area
    [IMG]

All holes drilled same way as the side of the case
    [IMG]

one of the holes came out a little weird, hopefully when I go ahead and sand the inside it will smoothen out
    [IMG]

Hopefully I will start cutting the window tmrw so stay tuned

Alright part 3 now. I spent the last week filing and sanding and have finally finished

Here's the garage where all the cutting went down
    [IMG]

    Got the console clamped down
    [IMG]

    Tool of destruction
    [IMG]

Really, really rough cut. Blade strayed off because it jumped off the guide
    [IMG]

    Same with the hard drive
    [IMG]

Time to start sanding. Attacking it with the 80 grit.

    Making some progress
    [IMG]

    More progress
    [IMG]

Got to grind of these tabs so I can glue the plexiglass somewhere
    [IMG]

Tool of destruction (Probably overkill but whatever)

    Sanded down nice and clean
    [IMG]

Man that took alot of blood, sweat, tears and time (Pic might make it seem curvy but I assure you it is straight)

Nice and smooth (Pic might make it seem curvy but I assure you it is straight)

Now I'm going to move on to the faceplate

Going to fill in the memory card slots
    [IMG]

Dont know why this pic is sideways, crazy gluing the tabs down
    [IMG]

    Removing the connect button
    [IMG]

Just cut the lil tabs down
    [IMG]

    Victory
    [IMG]

Also sliced down the tabs on the IR receiving thingy to get it out
    [IMG]

    Victory again
    [IMG]

That's it for now. I'm going to home depot in about an hour to get some paint and filler and all those goodies. Please check back often for more updates
