Hey guys this is one of my first logs, so be nice!

I've had this idea in my head for a while now and have been flicking it around, however i have got alot on atm so i will try to get the updates going as fast as i can.

The log is for a case to protect my 12" ibook G4 for when i take it to school and around about places, ect. Here are a few concept pictures i have knocked up for the log (edit the new images are below)

The top opens up and reveals the secret inside!

Start off with a large piece of wood that you have releaved from your schools stock pile :D

Cut that bad boy in half, the perfect size to let me attach it to the mill later on!

Size it up with the laptop, looks spot on!:thumb:

Mark out the outline of the laptop onto the wood, ready to router out the inner edges of the piece.

    Quick shot of the router

Unfortunatly the design department at my school had a bit of a gas leak so i didnt get any pics of the outer egdes of the piece routed out. However the next day i came back to cut out the middle part of the wood.

I used the wooden hole cutter type thing to cut out the unwanted wood as i have killed the router:wallbash:

    Nearly done

The mess i had to clear up afterwards as well! :eeek:

    By gilmr0001

Unfortuanatly the hole cutter had not bode well for the levelness, and smoothness of the section i cut away, so i banged the piece onto the mill.

This is much more like it! and much quicker as well!

This is the wood as it stands now, still quite a long way to go! Needs to be cut down, sanded, and the edges rounded off!

And with the laptop sitting in it!, remember the there needs to be another piece like that sitting ontop of it.

    good stuff :)

will you run the laptop inside the wood? Cos i think you'll have a problem keeping it cool (no airflow).

Also, how many peripherals are you carrying around? It might be worth the trouble to make a casing for usb mouse, power wires, etc etc.

I would felt line the case so you don't scratch up the laptop.

Just updated the first post with my new skechup drawings! they look much better than the ones that were there before and are a much more realistic version of what the case will look like when finished!

    hope you like

I then proceeded to bolt and glue the two pieces of wood to create the case, i used 4 hex head bolts and some pva glue and left it in the vice and clamped it overnight.

Here is it the day after all glued...

Another update for tonight, i milled the sides of the case to start the rounding off process, which will make it much, much easier.

Thats where i stopped tonight as it got dark and late, the case is probably about half way done as i still need to make the top section of the case. The finish of the case still needs to be decided, varnished, waxed or something special that i have planned...

... it should look good but i have to do some experiments on spare bits of wood.
I should update later on in the week.

sweet lord of hell :) it's nice idea. I hope You will put smth. inside this wooden cover to protect your mac from scratches. Soon someone will copy your project but for macbook Air(won't be me for sure). This tiny laptop really needs protection :)...
Good work rowin4kicks, i will keep my eye on this project!!
