Hi everybody, Just a couple of months ago I saw a casemod somewhere on the internet. That was the first time I saw such a modded computer and I liked it a lot. So I went on searching the net for more casemods and a little later I found this superb forum. I've been watching a lot of project logs over the last couple of weeks and I think I'm quite hooked right now.. So here I am with my first project log of my first mod ever (wish me luck). I'm starting with a lot of acrylic plates, my workmate, a hacksaw, jigsaw, files, sandingpaper and so on. First I'm going to make three cubes out of the acrylic. I'm planning on putting the DVD-Rom drive, FDD and fancontroller in the bottom cube. On top of that cube there will be another (smaller) cube. In that one I'm planning to put the harddrive. And on top of the second one, I'm putting the last cube. In there I'll put the PSU and mainboard. It will be a simple computer because it only will be used to surf the internet (so no spicy features on this one). Enough talking.. Let's get on with some pictures. The acrylic I'm using: The first plates: Some serious sanding (they were not all the exact same size): A quick test fit (with tape): Now I was looking for a way to connect the plates. I don't wanted to use the "connection cubes" (?) I've seen in several acrylic cases (you can buy) because I don't like them sitting in the corners. Because I want to have green UV acrylic too in my case (yes... I know I'm not the only one), I figured that I could make the connections out of the green acrylic: WHAT was I thinking?? Pfff what a lot of work this is.. And now I only need to do "some" more filing, sanding (lots of sanding..) and polishing the edges. Untill the next update..
Cuberific Just dont fall into the stereotype of making it into an electronic lightbulb with big obvious cathodes
RotoSequence: there will be lights in it but not much. A little UV and maybe green. I'm not that much of an artist but I gave it a try.. This is the main idea Still filing and sanding...
little update After hours and hours of filing and sanding, I couldn't stand it anymore and wanted to do something else. So I decided to try to mod a DVD-ROM drive. First I wanted to give the housing a nice color but after I took ik apart, I got another idea. Let's get creative: A little hot air and bending to do tadaaa I needed the round "thing" from the inside of the original drive: A little glue: Now the inside can take place in the "new" housing.. And last I made a "lit" for the bottom-side: Still have a lot of filing and sanding to do before I can put together the first cube. See you at the next update..
Impressive!!! Wow, that looks like a really good idea, haven´t seen anything like that and i really like it. Good luck and don´t forget to update. I give you at least six
Wow Im very interested in the project. I love anything with acrylic, but might I ask where you got youre UV neon green acrylic from? I need some
thanks for the nice replies everybody. That's one reason to put even more effort in it Because I liked the new housing for the DVD-ROM drive, I wanted also to make new housings for the FDD and for the FanController. FDD new housing for FDD New housing for FanController All together now Untill the next update..
Maybe you should paint or vinyl dye the plastic innards of your cd drive so they present a nice background for the uv shell. I like the looks of this project so far, very cool looking.
did you find a how to guide to do that? I want to do that to my CD drives and my Hard drives even tho its kind of dangerous...
