Ok, first off, I know this isn’t a computer, but if you look at most of the projects on this forum, there 90% case mod, so I think this will fit right in. Intro: skip this if you want, it’s just a little history lesson This was originally my dad’s amp when he was in collage, and he told me he paid 400 bucks for it back in the 70’s. He said he hade the best sounding stereo in his frat, and they used it for every party they hade… needless to say, it went through hell… beer was spilled on it, it shorted out numerous times (but was fixed by one of his friends each time) and one night someone fell backwards into the shelf it was on, and it fell to the floor, and never worked again. One day when we were cleaning out our basement I spotted it, and hooked it up to a pair of my speakers, and it sounded like hell. With the help of a Panasonic tech guy, I figured the main problem was that the IC’s were fried. I replaced one of them with one I got from a local electronic shop, and the sound blew me away. The bass was kinda scratchy, but the treble and mid range were the best I’ve ever heard. Now this is were the moding comes in… Found this catalog pic at vintage Technics This is the haggard, “mother board,” from the amp, if you look closely you can see burn marks in some places And here is the case; I ripped the laminate off the whole thing, because it was stained with beer The piece of paper is an actual size cut out I’m in the progress of making to be the centerpiece of the amp. With a heartagram fan grill I hade custom made by a guy in, I think Toronto, on his laser cnc for only 10 bucks, if you want his e-mail, I’ll look it up. I have more pics some things, like the half done cutting of the flames, but I’m way to tiered to post them now (its 3:30am right now), I’ll put them up tomorrow
Aehiauuuh! Excuse while I laugh my ass off... Against products like B&W Nautilus or even Gradient Revolution B&O is mere supermarket brand... Don't believe everything he says, even though he has B&O amp.
Ok, so I over exaggerated, but B&O is still an extremely good brand, I mean, Harman Kardon is more of supermarket brand than B&O
I wouldn't even start a brand fight since the best gear can only be afforded by uber rich snob's or very conservitave folk. Plus you could buy a system of any company and buy half a million parts.
Hay where did you find the trinity circle? Im about to start work on a valve base amp (tubes for the us)
If you mean the two in the center, there the symbols for John Paul Jones, and John Bonham, the bass player, and drummer for led zeppelin.
Alright, I took a long break from this over the summer, but now its getting cold out, so I’m back in the shop. First thing, I want to replace the old transformer with a psu, but I don’t know how the thing is wired… I know I need to test the voltage, but how do I go about it. Are the 2 yellow wires different voltages, and the white is a ground? Or not? If the voltage is below 12 volts, can I use resistors to get it to the right voltage? And what do I do if it needs higher than 12 volts? What do I use to up voltage?
If that transformer still works I would suggest you hook it back up to the amp or use a diode circuit similar to what is on the amp's mainboard and voltmeter for your voltages. It is obviously a dual rail transformer. Good chances are its around 25-30v DC. In that event you will not be able to power it via atx, if it were 12v you would have a chance. You cannot use -12v and 12v to power it either because the negative voltage rails on a psu are rated for around 500ma if that. You may want to A) reuse that original trans or B) look for an alternative that you like.
yep, Slayer, Pantera, Metallica, In Flames, Trivium, ect, ect. But I'm more into Thrash than death, y'know. and dont wory, I'm not an emo, the hearagram just looks cool
ok... thats Davey Havok, the lead singer of AFI, tottaly not emo, well, there new stuff kinda is, but there old stuff isn't. alright, maybe we should get back to the mod here
