    BiG Update!

I got some lasercut steel for christmas :D

Trying them out a bit, just to see if any measurements are off. Looks good though. These are 2mm stainless steel btw.

I thought about what PSU to use, and I've decided on stripping down a 650W Antec Truepower Trio, which I had sitting in a case I'm not using anymore.

    Oops... lol
    [IMG]

Cutting a 10mm acrylic plate to mount it on.

    Looks good :)

I'll be using standoffs from a stacker 830, could'nt find anything else laying around. They are normal M3, so that's good... I guess :D I'm also drilling and tapping the end of the plate to mount it on the back.

    Seems fine.

    Teh standoffs
    [IMG]

    After some drilling and tapping....

And the result looks like this
    [IMG]

I cut a piece of ACRyan UVblue 3mm acrylic for the back, and did some etching.

    Some bending...

    Whey!

I've bought a NEC slimline slot dvd burner which I intend to put on top of the computer. I'm hoping it gets here by tomorrow (Friday). Until then I just cut some brackets which I can mount it on. I'm also hoping I can use these brackets to support the top panel.

    10mm as usual.

Drilled and tapped the "legs" with M8. Pretty overkill but it looked better.

    Getting there... :)

2x 60mm. At least that's how I originally designed it.

Well it looks like we'll be meeting in MOTY 2008 as well ;) Seriously though, this case is so professionally built, its crazy, and i actually got to see Cold Fusion at Dreamhack winter this year. I really like how you are expanding on the same concept with your cases but in different form factors and i think this will definitely be the best one too. I also had an idea for a case of this type but i'm not going to bother with it now, this one is too good, keep it up :thumb:

Haha, yeah that would be awesome :) Oh, you did? That's cool, I did'nt know you were at Dreamhack this winter (I believe some swedish guy who drinks alot of beer withheld information...). Thanks alot for those kind words. I gotta tell you, your previous cases are made of pure awesomeness, and I'd love to see your design on a project like this.

I like how your "small-time" mod looks so much more amazing than anything I could do. V2 looks great Sleepstreamer, good luck finishing it, looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

Okay, It's now time to start on the top of the case.

This is the DVD Burner that'll be on the top. It's an Opticarc AD-7633A (Sony+NEC apparently), and as you can see it's a slot drive.

I've got a load of Slimline CD drives at home which I found at the scrapheap. What's nice with these is that they're complete with an IDE adapter, aswell as a plastic tray :) Makes it alot easier to mount.

Just removed the old drive and fitted my new shiny one :)

I cut a plate from sluminium to hold the drive in place. The plastic tray has an ledge in the front which I can hook into a notch in the plate.

I cut a cover for the top with a piece of 1mm alu.

Put it in my bender (Two planks and a pair of clamps ) Yeah, yeah.. I'll get me a real one soon enough :hehe:

Nope, the lcd will be in the square hole on the back (128x64 Graphic). The two smaller holes are for cable routing later on.

I've been working a bit more on the top, detailing, power button, etc.

Sorry about the crappy lighting on some of these pics

    These two parts:

I used 1mm alu, and some black acryan MeshX panel.

I used an acrylic rod to curve the edge of the panel
    [IMG]

Did the same with the meshX (crappy lighting Cheesecake :hehe:)

This is what the PW button looks like. It's built on a normal plastic switch from an old case, glued inside a steel ring. I also glued on a piece of black anodized aluminium to fit the theme.

    Redoing the sides.

I thought the sides looked a bit dull compared to the rest of the case, so I removed the black acrylic and replaced them with aluminium and some meshx.

I plan to fit four white LEDs in these later on.

Now it's time to solder some LEDs
