what kinda hardware will live inside that beautiful beast!
I've tried out the rounded nuts, and they actually don't look bad at all (not after I gave them some black paint anyways). I think I'm going for them after all, but I'll post a couple of pics tomorrow to hear your thought about it One thing I do know: I really don't want a permanent solution (such as solder, glue, or welding). Dude, you should start your own project to get to use all the great ideas you have
Thanks mate Yep that's how I like it (Futuristic industrial... Well put!)
I had actually bought an AMD X2 4800+ for it earlier, but it's currently in use in another computer so I don't know really. I'm just hoping I can raise the money to get a decent Mobo+Cpu for it at the moment.
Thanks for all your wonderful support!
Great, simple solution! Looking forward to seeing those pics. ^_^
Hehe, yeah I really should get started on my own project.. problem is I don't have any money atm, so I can't. Sorry for littering your log with my frustration born ideas. <=)
are there plans for a HD-DVD or Blue-ray drive to sit in the top of this bad boy?
you should also mod a HDMI port on to the side, even if it means hacking a DVI>HDMI adapter up....
Nope, that's just way too expensive I don't think I need to since the outputs from the graphic card will be easily accessible
This is what I did with the tubes on the sides (the pic does'nt really need an explaination).
Fricking awesome man, an inspiration to us all
Looks crazy cool!!!
I really liked the "vent" theme I did around the PSU on the back, so I decided to use it on the stand aswell.
I bought & cut a M8 threaded bar, and I milled a hole pile of small black pieces of acrylic.
Made my own nuts for this part aswell, the rounded ones I had just did'nt look good enough. These are made from steel, not aluminium I wanted a bit more industial look to them, that's why I did'nt polish them more.
I thought it would look really cool to put a 128x64 LCD display down there too, and this is what I came up with (only a mockup, the lcd in there is broken). Sorry about the crappy lighting in the pic too...
I really liked this idea so I went into construction mode Made two holders I can mount the display on from some acrylic, an aluminium frame and an alu cover.
Everything put into place, not bolted on though. I think I'm going to cover up the sides a bit more...
Lastly, I made the PSU a bit safer by putting on a cover made from ACRyan MeshX. I think the pic is a good enough explaination of how it's made
It's on it's way to completion I'd say
*picks jaw up off desk*
man that is so nice....
wow nice !
That psu is realy looking great.I'm soo jealous that you got a mill for that price, you can realy do amayzing thing with it !
are you still going to have an lcd at the back ?
Oh yeah, it's the best toy a modder could ever have Yup, I'm just adding another one.
Been really busy at work so I've not been able to work that much on the build. Though I've actually done a small amount of work in the last week or so.
I've put a mock-up mobo in it, and this thing is so incredibly crammed! But that's what SFF is all about I guess
Cut out a piece of aluminium for the Bottom. Yup, it's 2mm.
I can't really test if the hole for the graphics card is in the right spot until I get the right mobo for it, which kinda sucks... but at least it looks okay.
Made a panel for the Screen control-panel
Plus a couple of tiny-tiny buttons
One thing I've started to think about is the sides where the four LEDs are situated. When you sit in front of the computer you actually get blinded by them, so I needed something to block the light some (or at least diffuse it). I do want the light to show from the front though. So I threw a piece of transparent 10mm acrylic into the mill and got to work.
I also took a can of black paint and gave the back of it the full treatment. I honestly have no idea how this is going to look, I guess we'll see when paint has dried
I'll check it out tomorrow, stay tuned!
There, the paint has dried
Here's how it looks:
Now I just have to make a second one I'm confident this will look really good once the front frame is in place, and the lighting is in "working order"
Thats just wierd, i have just posted images after ive sprayed some clear acylic black...
Nice work, i look forward to seeing both sides on the case..
Some more work done
Second acrylic panel is done
And while the paint was drying on the second piece of acrylic, I cut out the Front panel from a sheet of 1mm aluminium.
And this is what it looks like mounted:
There, it's time to actually mount the black acrylic panels onto the sides
Drilling some holes
Had to cut down the bolts a bit, but after that it worked like a charm
Opinioins wanted! Do you guys think I should paint the aluminium behind the acrylic aswell? I mean I'm very satisfied with how it looks right now but... It could never look "too good"
Some random angles:
That's it for now! Bring on the commants
ps: I'll try to bring you some pics when the lighting is on asap
That front looks realy nice !
I would realy be proud to have a computer like that on my desk !
But I don't think you should paint it in black.
Okay, thanks alot for your thoughts I'll just post a pic to clarify my thoughts some... This is the part I'm talking about:
yeah but with the black mesh behind, it would maybe look "too" black.
Damn, that is one huge awesome box. I think your screen is on steroids :O Nice job, looking really cool.
Separate names with a comma.
