Project C5-R What it Was: It started out as an old PC case borrowed from a friend, stripped of its paint to a beautiful metallic finish. Lights and fans were added, and the face was painted, and a custom window with a hinge was made. Corvette logos from eBay were also ordered. This PC was going to be a tribute to my favorite car. Below are the photos of the old C5-R. How it Changed: A few years back, I believe around 2000, an episode of The Screen Savers was on, and somebody built a PC out of his daughter's Barbie doll car, and the front bumper was her CD drive. I remembered this in a dream one night, thinking, there is no way my current case could win any contest. So, I began to research my Idea and found the perfect body, a 400mm Corvette C5-R Nitro RC body. Much to my dismay, I also found the HTPC, meaning that this idea had been done before! But it was with a 1/10th scale car, and a VIA MicroITX motherboard. I then had an Idea, mine would be the first full size PC, that was turbocharged. I upped the ante to an ATX Chief Tec Motherboard, ATI All-In-Wonder 9800 Pro graphics card (still debatable) and more fans than you've seen. It will also have two awesome screens, and el Neon lighting, and a fan Idea completely new the the modding world (due to the fact people steal ideas, I will not share it until my PC is finished.) It will be the first of its kind, and 100% original, full sized, and overclockable. It was based on someone else's idea, but will completely blow it out of the water. The CD-RW drive and Floppy drive will also be masked, but again, until it is built I will not say how. I will also have links up to where I got all my parts after this project's completion. It has a red and black color scheme, that even the motherboard and graphics card match. It will use an AMD XP 2800+ Processor, and probably be over clocked to around 3100. The case chassis and mounting brackets will be hand made, and a PCI flex extender will be used to make the video card fit. This isn't really just a PC mod, but a from scratch creation, something nobody has done before (again, the car thing has been done, but most of my ideas have not.) October 19th, 2003 I have started the chassis, and it is looking decent. I cut out some old bay holders from a case somebody was throwing out, and made a clamp out of twp 2x8's, and stuck the bay between them, nailed it together, and made the bends. It was the only way I could think of to make perfectly strait bends in the metal. I was also going to reuse the motherboard tray, but it was cheap and flimsy, so I saw the metal casing on a satellite receiver I had, that didn't work and was just being held for scrap parts. I marked what needed to be cut and broke out my jigsaw. Then, I grinded any rough edges down, giving it strait edges. Next I hammered out the small bends from the grinder and jigsaw. Then I went back and hand filed it. I am pretty proud, and it will look great when it is painted a high gloss black. I installed some hardware, but not what is going to be used, to show what it would look like. Also included is a picture of the used tools. NOTE: A hand pop rivet gun is almost required on this project, and they are awesome, and very cheap. It makes your life a whole lot easier not screwing around with (literally) nuts and bolts. October 23rd, 2003 I just finished painting the drive chassis, and it looks great. I am getting ready to order my parts, it will be a big week. I also painted the screws, to match, and the CD-ROM cover too. I also started modding the monitor (Project C5-R Monitor) for this bad boy. I think I am going to have to go with a Pentium, even though I don't want too, because AMD boards just don't come in the scheme I need. November 20th, 2003 Well, I am going with AMD in a 1/6th scale Hummer H2 remote control car. This will give me the room I need for the eventual board and processor, the AMD 64. The Project Monster-H2 Monitor is now complete, and looks pretty decent for an after thought. I also bought two LED 12 volt power switches today, along with five feet of el Neon red wiring. I buy the RC car tomorrow, it costs around $100.00, which is what I would have spent on plastic, paint, LED's, and the number of screw ups anyway. It comes with opening and closing doors/hatches, working head and tail lights, and a speaker that makes engine sounds, which I will wire to the PC's internal speaker socket. The Keyboard and mouse will be Bluetooth wireless, along with a wireless Logitech joystick. I had lots of links, but they didn't paste. HOW DO I GET ALL OF these images here with out having to put in like 40 Pics? Is there a shortcut?
hey theres another person on here that did pretty close to the same thing http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=46797&
you're kidding me, thats horrible. I am going to cry. Mine is full sized and works though, so maybe I am original. I had no idea somebody did it here...
Yeah, I still win! Everything is fuill sized, and now I have an LCD in the back where it opens. I seriously had no Idea somebody did it. I was originally going to do a Corvette. Wish I had.
You sure thats not a shuttle mobo? There no way you can fit a full size mobo or cards in there... its like 18 CM... Oh well. My next one is custom everything. At least here in the US it was respected...
He had a MicroATX motherboard. Barely fit Good work though. Yours runs too, right? I'd like to see them race, lol Oh, does your hummer have undercarraige lights?
Nice car ehhh PC orehh car, well whatever, good work Maybe i read over it, but i could'nt find the dimensions, what are they?
1. Haven't gotten dimmensions, but I will post. 2. Not one hundred percent glued back together, I accidentally cuaght it on fire. 3. It's not Micro anything. Full ATX crammed in there, with .5 mm to spare. 4. Thanks for the comments, I guess it wasn't a lost cause. 5. It does have undercarrage lights, 2x 9inch red neons.
