just an idea for your optical drives (i had planed on integrating my PC into my desk, but then i got thrown out of the house) is to mount the drives backwards and at a 45degree upward angle. so the conections would be facin the door of the cabanet. then cut the material of the desk to the size of the drive front and extend the button down through the material. push the button and the drive tray slides open at a 45degree angel with the disc label facing you. comes righ out of the top of the cabanet. id post a daigram (its much easier to understand then my rambeling) but that means id have to find them and then upload them. id drawn up detailed plans for it when i was working on mine. anyway just an idea
No. I like this idea and I might use it, but i actually had another trick up my sleve. So this can be considered an update: My idea is that when i get my furniture i will purchase a rack (for rackmount stuff) that hands under the desk. I will then get a sheet of aluminum and mount it on the rack and also get a 1U rackmount project box. In the box will be the CD/DVD drives and then I will move the switchboard to the aluminum sheet. I think that would look slick and would clear up some precious desk space. Peace, Nick
I have just readden(spelling?) the whole log. Interesting. Good ideas and good work! But you need some more footspace under the desk, don´t you?
Nah. If i really need the space then i just put my feet up on the desk. Now, a small update with pics. First, I got a little gift from work (we dont need it anymore there).... Here they are. 2 audio level led read outs with a trimmer and through-put. They are rack-mountable so they will go into my hanging rack when I get it. They also have a mode for just viewing the level they are out rather than a bar. I went to RadioShack to get this relay and PCB. I am rebuilding the "security circuit" to be a little better. Here it is with some more work. Another update soon cuz I just got a nice paycheck monday and and am placing an order tonight. Peace, Nick

Man, I never even thought to do this. I'm already planning mine out. Did you draw out a detailed diagram or just use SketchUp for it? I'd like to see your plans so I have an idea where to start.
