hehe, take it easy, I have bent a few cathodes already (taking them out of the plastic tube first ) but they all finished by breaking.... Good luck !! Av
lol, u can't bend a cold cathode. And I believe they don't reacht too well on heat either. Just get some lovely EL wire! Good luck with the project! L
I got some good sand paper... 400 grit..so the bondo work is done and i've begun painting..Expect pics tonight of painting complete...I've found the paint doest take well to the plastic at first because its so smooth..But if i use a really fine steel wool pad and rub off loose paint, The paint stays good... I started to order stuff off of newegg but it was messed up big time! Im just gonna find somewhere else to buy stuff
I've been having trouble with the paint..It gets gritty and by the time i sand the grittiness off the paint is basically gone..And i have to do some bondo on front ... And I finnaly ordered stuff on newegg..I should have it early next week THE LIGHTS CAME A little preview
Can't say it's the gretest casemod I've seen, but It's a hell of a lot better than what the case used to look like. By the way, what brand are those CCFL's? I've got a red one, but it only glows pink
I built a myth box from an L800cxe. I worked pretty well. Now the Dell is just the frontend and I run a separate backend. As long as you install the appropriate linux modules for the i810 video chipset you can use XvMC so that the video card will do most of the mpeg2 decoding. It works like a charm and play dvds great. I am going to upgrade to an Nvidia FX5500 and 512MB Ram just to get a little better performance overall. Other than that it is a great frontend machine. I got mine for free too and paid 100 bucks for the backend which is a celeron 2.5Ghz 1.25GB ram and 140GB of hdd space. Soon I am going to throw 2 500GB hdd's in it.
Aha, well, evidentally im not the only one to mod one of those p.o.s. dell boxes. and i did pretty much the same thing you did. but i replaced the mobo and psu in mine. bondo'd all the dell logo's and such. i had all the brackets for mine, and i put 3 hdd's in mine.(btw, it will stay in the verticle position if you use the screw from the fron of the case to the hdd.) i also cut the small grill off the right panel and put in a fan guard. Spec's SantaFe-Km W/ 1.4Ghz Socket A. 512Mb Ram. Evga FX5200 128Mb 2x 50Gb Hdd's 1X 20Gb Hdd running: Red Hat With Freevo Windows XP MCE
:0 omg i had like 12 of these exact computers (minus ram cept' for two of them i put 512 in) igot them out of the dumpsters they were from my A+ certification class.
