looking good as allways there greensabbath!!!!
Hope I'm not too late, and PMP (pardon my paint) but here is a horrible depiction of what I was trying to describe with the abstract 3 fan grills on the top of the case.
Image won't show up? Dunno why? Little help would be apreciated . Follow the link directly if you like: http://pixloads.com/public/pview/38238/3.PNG
hope you get your damaged case fixed up
BTW great looking case that you are building now
Again great work! 5 stars...
I see where davidbacsik is going but, personally I would rather see the whole crest in the fan grill. Unless you are planning on making the crest a focal point someplace else, that is.
Thanks very much guys. Special thanks to davidbacsik for the drawings. I actually figured out a design for the top panel, making it and the symbol the focal point of the case. Essentially, the shoji pieces and the two spruce pieces will cradle the symbol and hold it elegantly. I'm also pretty confident I can make it looks less "war-like" with material choices so I wouldn't worry about that.
I did some work today, more work tomorrow and I'll have an update tomorrow night. Things are taking shape, stay tuned.
the rear cover is great, but i have an idea i thought i'd suggest. what if you cut the original grills off and use wooden ones? maybe use the same pattern/style as the grills you make up top
what can i say, i wasnt a fan of wooden cases untill I saw yours, and even one in person. Now i wish i had your skills in woodworking
keep up the good work Nick, if you keep gooing like this you'll have to make me one too
hey havent checked in to this log for a while and i am impressed with the progress you have had!
and the quality doesn't seem to be dipping either which is definatley a good thing!
Can't help but notice the title.. Does it have anything to do with Heroes character Hiro Nakamura?
Nice Idea actually but in this case it might not be worth the effort and I am trying to not touch the chassis at all. The rear cover is really just meant to make the case usable with the wood case and get rid of some of the silver. Thanks for the idea though.
@Joungne: Thanks very much Gert, I'd love to make you a case, as long as you render it first
@rowin4kicks: Its hard for me to make something crappy and especially since this is for someone else, it has to be perfect.
@C0nker: I actually don't know what the name means, the client named it.
One thing that has always struck me is the amazing grain on all of your wood. Do you hand select it, or just use what you get?
hehehhehehehehheheh totally awsome dud!!!
asjk im exztrememly drubnkered atmmmmmmmmmmm, sorry of post cont makje s asencese
I hand select most of it. I have a fairly large inventory or woods that struck me as particularly interesting. I usually don't get wood specifically for a project, I just buy it when I find something I like, especially with the spruce. On occasion when I can't actually pick it out (there isn't much wood in central Cali, so I have to ship it from the the San Fran area) then I'll get my dad to pick it out.
Hey everyone, time for another update. I'll start with the front panel. I decided to go with an extremely clean, almost bare front plate to keep the focus on the wood and especially the top. I started off with a piece of 3/16 inch black acrylic, ready to mill the dvd slot.
And then some Milling:
And once that was done, I cut a piece to replace the whole, which would stealth the dvd drive:
The only thing left for the front is to cut a couple holes for the buttons. I'm using the stock buttons by the way that are on the bottom left. They should be inconspicuous though.
Next I worked on the top design.
Sorry for the dark picture. The circle in the center is for the symbol that will be held in place by the shoji and the spruce pieces;
And all cut out:
With the circle that will be inset in the spruce. This is made out of the same material as the front and back to bring them together:
Next I needed to cut the slots in the Cherry posts that would accept the acrylic. I started with the back plate.
First I used the marking gauge to mark where it would need to route.
Carried all the way around:
And then routed:
More to come soon, work on the front panel, and shoji. After that, the case should be almost done and it will be time to work on the other case.
looking good as allways!
hmmmm, I liked a configuration of arrangement of accessories. But PSU above SPU on MB? It will not stir to installation of the fan of the processor?
Noyce ; )
Looking good as always.
